Texas to Irvine Caravan News!

Everyone,

Excuse the following long post. Sent this out last Friday to our members here in Arizona!! PM me to add your name to the CARAVAN List along with your email address, RX year, model, color, and easiest contact phone number!

Tim

***********************************
Fellow rotarians,

Get psyched!!! Sevenstock 7 is just a little over two months away. The event will be hosted again for the fourth consecutive year at Mazda's Research and Development (R&D) Studios in Irvine, California. Sevenstock is unique in that Mazda is heavily involved with planning and really reaches out to owners and enthusiasts at the grass roots level during this exciting two-day event.

For those NEWER members who've never attended a Sevenstock event, it can only be described as Rotary Nirvana. It truly is the largest single day gathering of some of the finest rotary vehicles in America. Last year more than 600 vehicles and 4000 spectators were in attendance. From historic racecars like the LeMans-winning 787B, to old school rotaries, rotary-engined pickups (REPUs), every generation of RX-7, and the new RX-8, there's something of interest for everyone.

Each year a Caravan originates just outside Houston, TX and cruises through Phoenix enroute to the event. A support van, sponsored by Jeff Haas Mazda (Mazdaformance) will again accompany our group this year as we make our way out to Irvine. Last year we had more than 25 cars in the pack (with NO RX-8s). I'm sure that we'll be able to blow that number out of the water this year with our new enthusiastic contingent of RX-8 owners.

The Caravan will likely be departing EARLY on Friday, September 10th. The plan is to leave at 6 a.m. so that the group can get through the Palm Springs, Indio area no later than 11 a.m. Temps in early September can still be in the 105F+ range, so based on the forecast we may leave a little later, or even earlier. Most of us will make the return trip to Phoenix late Sunday afternoon.

I'm starting an initial list of attendees, so if you THINK you'd like to attend, please contact me at teull@***.net and I'll add your name to our Caravan List. Adding your name to the list only indicates your interest. Making your individual room and Sevenstock dinner reservation will solidify your commitment to attend the event. When replying to add you name to the list, please indicate your name, RX model, vehicle color, hotel where you'll likely be staying, and cell phone or BEST contact info.

Rooms reservations are currently being taken at the following Hotels:

Hilton Irvine/Orange County Airport
18800 MacArthur Blvd.
Irvine, CA 92612
1-(800) 445-8667
1-(800) HILTONS
SevenStock Group Rate $79/night

DoubleTree Hotel
201 E. MacArthur
$79 per night plus free complimentary covered parking
(714) 825-3333
Make sure to tell them you're with RCCAZ when making your reservation to get the discounted rate.

NOTE: Those of us who've attended Sevenstock in the past have traditionally stayed at the DoubleTree. Both Hotels are approximately half a mile from the Mazda R&D Facility where Sevenstock will be held. The main difference between the two hotels is that the DoubleTree has a covered parking structure, while the Hilton does not. Also, the DoubleTree has offered us complimentary parking.

A big benefit of the Hilton is the fact that they will be hosting both the Sevenstock Happy Hour and Sevenstock Banquet. So, if you want to party and relax without the worry of driving back to your hotel, the HILTON is for you!!

Also, tickets for the Sevenstock Dinner on Saturday night are $37 each and are available at http://sevenstock.org. The banquet is an awesome way to meet top automotive designers one-on-one, and Mazda always puts together a great program that usually showcases a few little "secrets" concerning future rotary product offerings. It truly is a GREAT way to wrap up your day!! Tickets will NOT be sold at the door, so if you think you'd like to attend, order in advance and order early. Last year the banquet sold out early.

Everyone.... Note that the Caravan departure info mentioned above is for the LAST leg from Phoenix into Irvine on Friday morning. Members who are coming from Houston or farther locals will need to leave Wednesday or earlier (depending on distance) to get to the Phoenix departure point on Friday morning. Please stay in touch with Keith (Dr. Killjoy) or Brian at Mazdaformance.com for departure details for Texas and beyond.

So, let's get started!!! Send me your name for the Caravan, block out some vacation time, and let's get ready to ROLL DEEP down the freeway!!

Looking forward to another GREAT time together!
