SevenStock 7 Mentioned in Automobile Magazine (September)!
So, I was reading the September edition of Automobile magazine. They have a piece called "Great Cars, Great Places". I think this is really a marketing supplement to the magazine by Mazda.
In any event, on page 15 of the supplement, it talks about "The Best Club Events". Every topic (such as Best Car Museums, Best Auctions, etc.) has a box entitled "The Mazda Connection".
On the Best Club Events page, The Mazda Connection box says (with a picture of an RX-8 on it):
I thought this was very cool, especially since I was at the first SevenStock about six years ago at Bonelli Park in San Dimas. There were only about 20-30 people at that first SevenStock, which was really nothing more than a few guys (and gals) getting together for a BBQ and to talk about their common passion: rotary powered vehicles!
So, from a few dozen people, and perhaps only 6 or so third gen RX-7's, to literally thousands of people at Mazda's R&D facility in Irvine with so many rotary powered vehicles it is almost impossible to count!
We've come a long way, baby!

From the start, enthusiasts of the rotary engine have been a special breed, keeping the legend of Dr. Wankel's engine alive. For the past six years, they've organized SevenStock, a Woodstock-like expression of rotary engine culture. SevenStock 7 takes place September 10-12, 2004 at Mazda R&D (Mazda's technical and design center) in Irvine, California. About 5000 people are expected, and you'll see everything from lovingly preserved first-generation RX-7's to wacky Mazda rotary powered pickup trucks. Mazdaspeed, Mazda's in-house outlet for speed parts, is sure to have something special on display.
