Rear Knuckle Assembly Broken
Hi Everyone,
I have a 09 RX8 and I recently crashed the Rear back corner of my car. I am repairing it and I was about to order the Rear Driver's side Knuckle Assy ( Part# F181-26-12X for S2) But its going to cost me $445!! So I know a few parts are interchangeable between the S1 and S2s. Does anyone know if a S1 Rear Driver's side knuckle will work on a S2 car? I found one on ebay for $100. Want to save money where I can.

Contact Tom Neel. http://www.partsgroup.com/ A used one will be just fine. You must have really whacked something because those dudes are robust.
The rear wheel bearings on the 8 are also robust. The fronts need replacing before I'd ever consider the rears.
Hope that helps.

They are the same. Most all of the car is damn exact same contrary to what most people beleive. It's really the Series 1 and the Series 1.01

Thanks guys!!! I have Paul at Mazmart working on pricing for the parts I need. Hopefully he hooks it up. EricMeyer: The car spun out and hit the curb hard enough to damage the knuckle and crack the rim.... :''''(

The smallest diameter control arm on the rear (lower and toward the front) is the weak link of the rear suspension. If/when we get hit while racing this is the control arm that bends. Check it out. Also a big lateral impact will push the half shaft into the diff and sometimes the diff output shaft seal will leak. Check it every once and a while for seepage around the seal. Other than that the rest of the car is pretty strong. Hopefully your wheel was the weak link and took much of the abuse therefore transferring less force to the other parts of the car. Naturally you'll need an alignment afterwards. You'll want to talk to the mechanic before and after (I would if I were you) and have him triple check for other damage. He will know if something is wacky during the setup. A control arm bolt might be bent (the skinny control arm I told you about). Other than that you should be OK. Like I said before, the knuckle is really robust and its usually the control arms and wheel that get the maj of the punishment.

Paul at Mazmart hooked me up though. That guy must not sleep, because he called me from EST to 5pm PST (my time) just to call me back. They had everything I needed at good prices too. I have been looking all over the place too!!!

I looks like my Rear Diff Input Seal just started leaking. Do you think that I can sneak it in under warranty repair??

the rear bearing is robust unless you get a bare knuckle without the bearing and hub, then you are forced to buy and install a new rear bearing because there is no way to keep a used bearing together removing the hub, I had to replace them both when I pulled the hubs to install ARP racing studs, pita too even with a shop full of the right tools and equipment
