Mazda RX-8 Series II (R3) Workshop Repair Manual + Wiring Manual

COMPLETE R3 - SERIES II RX-8 (2009-2012) ONLY (PDF) Workshop Repair Manual. *

Attached LINK is a complied and complete PDF list of the official Mazda Motor Corporation Workshop Manual for the 2009 - 2012 Mazda RX-8,
the model years inclusive are collectively known as the SERIES II RX-8...and includes the marketed name of the R3.

While these files are MNAO Dealer issued, most detail is the same for all countries, however obviously some 'electrical features' differ between other countries.
As does some mechanical between Left Hand Drive and RHD units.

I have tried to list/highlight all known variances, however if you find a detail on later Series II 's not listed here please let me know (PM me)...

This PDF File size for is considerable @ 53 Mb, please ensure you have the latest and updated PDF ADOBE Software up and running.

I suggest you click on link (below) and once fully downloaded click on (in) your Adobe "File" 'Save As'.
There are over 4,150 pdf pages which are indexed and search-able for your viewing pleasure.
Importantly ''point and or click links'' also make it very easy to identify and rectify specific DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes)
with a generic 'code reader' along with Mazda's suggested repair procedures .

Sometimes this manual requests 'Mazda Dealer technicians or mechanics' to use their approved Mazda IDS (MMDS) Integrated Diagnosis Software
together with a separate VCI or VCM (Vehicle Communication Module) Pass-Through Device and with a suitable MS Windows PC.

http://static.ibsrv.net/rx8club/Mazd...p%20Manual.pdf

CAUTION: There are very few Series II Wiring Harnesses or Electrical Modules (boxes) which are identical to the Series I (2004-2008 RX-8),
with a very large number of mechanical and electrical upgrades between the two Series none can be realistically cross referenced or used.
This MNAO Factory Workshop Manual DOES NOT include specific Wiring Diagrams or Wiring tracing or Wiring instruction,

* Does not include Series II FULL Wiring Diagrams....see my next post below

This link below has the Series II Wiring Diagrams SET which will require to be un-zipped (41.7 MB) before use.

This is not for Series I (2004-2008 RX-8).

https://mega.nz/#!Z9lBlYyb!ES5CQ14HT...ZZGydO3vyDHi8I

Once you have unzipped file to a location on your PC you will have a folder (Mazda RX-8 Series II Wiring Diagram).
Full of HTML, GIF and PNG Images.

This is how this set must remain.

To view the interactive S2 Wiring Diagram use the ‘wiring diagrams’ (HTML), layout list and point/click searching.*

To view the wiring Connectors/Plugs/Fuses use the 'complist', and also click on connector icon (far right) associated with each electrical component listed.

Each wiring diagram shows coloured layout for wiring (code colour) to relevant modules or components.

Depending on which diagram is selected there is a FLOW button (Bottom Right) in blue, click this and
current flow path is highlighted, on Bottom Left shows Ignition Switch Position and or Device Switch (click Lock, ACC, On, Start)
and where Power flows and Ground (Earth) path to a component (interactive).

PINK COLOURED LINES INDICATE UNSWITCHED BATTERY POWER PATHS (Can actually look light brownish/beige).
GREEN LINES INDICATE GROUND (Earth) PATHS.
RED LINES INDICATE SWITCHED POWER PATHS

Voltage/Resistance information is also displayed on some pages (Light Blue 'thought bubble').

Red PRINT button is extremely handy as there are 2 options on most to print or to save as XPS Viewer
of all 3 pages associated with what you are viewing.
1. Wiring layout in colour, the 2. Harness Connector(s) layout, the 3. Harness Routing and Connection Locations associated with your selected interactive view.
THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST WAY OF TRACING ANY WIRING OR KNOWN ELECTRICAL FAULTS AS ONE CAN PRINT OUT
THE DESIRED COMPONENT OR ISSUE AND USE THE COPY WHILE TESTING WIRING, CONNECTOR PLUGS, OR POWERED DEVICE.

2021 ADOBE FLASH PLAYER END OF USE FIX
As we know 2021 saw the end of supported Adobe Flash Players for most Browsers.
As these RX-8 Mazda Wiring Diagrams use .swf files this is a problem, even IF you have a stand alone .swf player
Browsers like Chrome will Block the use of the .swf file.

I have been trialing this solution and it appears to work.
YOU MUST INSTALL 'Ruffle' Browser Extension as this will stop the Blocking of the .swf file from loading in a Browser.

I have tried and tested this Extension in Google Chrome and MS Edge Chrome Browsers, I have not tested in Firefox (different install file).
Apparently the Chrome file will work with Safari too.

See this link to download and I have included my instructions for Install.
HTML Document side of these RX-8 Wiring Diagram files will still be Blocked, but you can use it to get the correct drop down reference
Number of the .swf file you want to Wire Trace.
So you now ONLY can use the html folder of files and you ONLY can click on the .swf file to view.

https://mega.nz/folder/51djTYwA#rYqAR8X9DuIPcOUclSp3yA

THIS IS THE BEST SOLUTION
The same Folder Access above applies as Extension, but you do not have to install
an Extension to view .swf Files in Wiring Diagram.

Do this ..

ADOBE FLASH 32 DEBUG Install and Use Of..

IF you do not want to install any Extension like RUFFLE to your Browser then
this Version of Adobe Flash Player DEBUG works but how you use it has changed.

So just make sure you have no other versions already (if yes uninstall them) reboot PC.

Right click and Run ADOBE FLASH 32 DEBUG
A Pop-Up Screen with Flash Player should be on your Desktop.
To View the WIRING .swf Files go to open Player Click on Top Left Menu to FILE, then OPEN.
Next a dialog or search box will open, Click on BROWSE, Locate the Folder you have the Original Saved
RX-8 Wiring Diagram 'html' files in, this Opens the Folder, then select the .swf File you want to VIEW click OPEN..
Interactions like FLOW etc still work as before.
This is Now the Process for every .swf File you want to view, Only One file at a time.

IF you know of any other workaround please post.

With ADOBE FLASH 32 DEBUG you can still ONLY View and use the .swf Files,
in 'html' folder and not HTML Document through a Browser..

Here is the link for the ADOBE FLASH 32 DEBUG
https://mega.nz/folder/M992RBoT#3iT6dSqUHqs0OOYF3FikEg

And you do not have to use or install the RUFFLE Browser Extension.

Thank you so very, very much for this, lol. Seriously, this is awesome. The interactive wiring diagram is really cool - sure beats tracing through paper charts all over the place.

Chrome's flash player did not want to cooperate without being hosted by a local web server, but that wasn't an issue for me and IE/FF may not have that problem with the right security settings.

Yeah, Mazda is the only manufacturer we (my employer that is) have come across that has interactive elements like that. It's pretty cool

You put a series one engine in a series two car!? Well you're going to have to address a lot of things, in fact you should probably make your own thread to have people go over everything you'll need to do. Off the top of my head, your going to need to work on the OMP somehow, use the series one ecu or devise your own solution.

You will need to swap a lot to get it to work properly. The wiring is almost completely different than a Series 1

Mate, everything is different in electrics, control modules, EMOP's, looms, nothing will just swap over easily.

Perhaps you should have read the threads posted here long ago.

I really doubt you will find a comprehensive enough wiring plan/diagram, I and others have posted before and are only really detailed at module end/plug, but as I said the wiring looms on S2 (R3) are also different coloured and different plugs to different modules under the Dash and Engine bay side.

An S1 ECU wont fit as the connections are totally different, plus 2x EMOP's wont work off S1 MOP wiring.

You will have to work this a lot, frankly I would try bypassing Mazda wiring and installing an aftermarket like Motec systems, and pre-mix, maybe?

Good luck.

Hi all. Regarding the Series II Wiring Diagrams SET link above, it appears to be dead. Could someone repost a working link? Thanks.

Parts Manual?

I was wondering if anyone had the parts manual for the Series II (R3). Here is an example of what I am looking for.

http://www.mazdamotorsports.com/wcss.../rx8_04_cg.pdf

This would make things so much easier. If there is another way to see an exploded parts list, that would work too.

Big Thanks ASH8 for the r3 workshop manual, I'm trying to get hold of the wiring diagram to make my life easier but after I download the link it won't open, it just pops up with another pop up saying save or open, is there a way of sending it to me by email if you would be so kind?

Thanks Rob x
