6 disc w/ mp3 issue

ok, i have a 6 disc player with i guess mp3. ( it has the mp3 symbol on it.
anyway, i've tried using itunes to burn an mp3 cd. that didnt work so i tried dragging mo3 files to a blank cd and then burning it that way. neither one worked.
any ideas what i'm doing wrong?

i bought this 8 used. it's an 09 r3 and according to mazda, mp3 isnt available as an option except on the base, so i'm just curious if the previous owner had it installed or maybe jacked the plate up and replaced it with an mp3 plate?
dont know either way i cant get it to play mp3's and it's frustrating me more than it should :-)

R3 factory doesnt support MP3.
its either single CD with MP3 or 6 changer without.

Probably the factory installed the wrong trim panel. It's rare, but mistakes like this can happen.

I don't even see an mp3 accessory available in the US. Maybe it is only for other markets, like Japan?

Did you download the songs via iTunes? If you did you are going to run into a DRM issue and may not be able to play it on devices other than an ipod

No the trim panel is separate from the actual stereo. So it is possible to install the wrong face plate trim panel. Probably the assembly line worker grabbed the wrong one.

Habsfan (or anyone else with an mp3 deck), any chance we could get a pic of your *known working* mp3 deck?

Also, I'm going to assume the mp3 deck just plays files straight off the disc, no indexing or other weirdness required. zoned, when you browse the disc you burned on a computer, do you see the files show up on the disc? Can you play them directly off the disc? (Maybe using another media player app other than iTunes?)

And does the cd play in other devices that are not a PC ? I am wondering if maybe the brand of CD-R you are using is culprit?

Your in Canada.....MP3 capability is included. I still think the OP has the wrong faceplate. The only way to be sure is to pull the audio unit out and check the part number. There is also a way to check for MP3 error codes on the display but I am not 100% sure how to do it.

Might be the way you are burning your files, I create a playlist in I tune, fill it up, right click on the playlist name and burn, then when ask I click as Mp3 disk. I find that if you click burn disk at the bottom of the screen while in the play list, it burns your disk by folders (each artist a folder) not the best for me since they are not all well classed. maybe check also the type of cd you are using, I use sony's and works great. let us know how it goes, I got a 09 R3 with the stock 6cd unit, yours should be the same

Another unit from Canada!

Looks like they also get rain sensing wipers & auto climate control. So it's like a GT R3 compared to here.
Of course they pay A LOT more for an RX-8!
