Idk about S2s, but my auto dim has never worked.
I've read that the spoilers interfere with them, so if you have a spoiler, you might want to look into it before buying one.
The garage door openers work though.

I ended up buying one off eBay and retrofitting it to my S1. The hardest part is that the new mirror had a different attachment bracket than my existing. I ended up just pulling the plain mirror off the arm and popping the homelink mirror in its place.

The Series II (S2) R3 and GT models did come with auto dimming mirrors with HomeLink as standard equipment.

I wonder if the trim options were the same in Australia and N.Z.?

No
My 2010 "gt" is essentially a R3 without the bluetooth stereo and handfree access door, and no homelink

All US Series 2 came with the HomeLink/Autodim rear view mirror. This may not be true for Canadian cars. (The Canadian cars also came with headlamp washers whereas US cars did not).

If you need me to take a video or something let me know. I don't have the wiring schematic to know if it operates off a signal (headlamps on or has another daylight sensor that shuts off the autdimmy thingy)

Thanks, it's not a big deal.
It hasn't worked for the 4 yrs since I bought it , I just assumed it was the spoiler after never finding another answer.

US RX-8's do not have Headlamp Washers.

My Aussie S2 does and are a bit useless, they are really only meant for snow and or fresh mud....best thing is I have a huge washer bottle, when compared to my NC MX-5 which empties very quickly. But the RX-8 has to carry more weight (washer water).

Will try today. I do know the US S2 also has a pitter-patter monitor (to monitor rain activity and will turn on/adjust speed on the wipers). I suspect this is in the rearview mirror mount as well.
