I decided to get in touch with Axial Flow just to make sure that this offer still stands with them, since we've got 7 people committed now. The response I got wasn't what I expected, but great news all the same.

"The probability of the S2.2 shifter is getting better.
The re engineering of the unit is currently underway.
Also with Rmagic possably signing on for the JDM
we can look at the price to come down to $295.
We are trying to get the design to be a drop in like the S1. No spacer plate. We are tightening grip on the pivot also with the new design. This should take any rattle out.

baxamas makes 10 people!!! I never heard back from AF after my last email, but I'll shoot them another email today. Hopefully they're still willing to do this deal and we can get this ball rolling.

I received a response from Richard Paul about the short shifter we're all so eager to get our hands on.

He is currently working on the S2.2 model which will be an updated model of the short shifter for the series 2 RX8 transmission. In his message he said he is very close and will be testing 2 versions shortly. I think this was his way of saying we should wait until the S2.2 is ready for sale. I've asked him to keep me posted on the progress. As always, I will post any updates I receive on here.

At least 10 people are interested in the product, so the market isn't dead. I wouldn't want him to develop something and there not be folks lined up to buy it.

Yeah I think what spurred it was people in the same situation as me. Series 1 transmissions are starting to die off and people are replacing them with the series 2 transmission. Then they realize they can't use there AF shifter on the new transmission and start pestering RP lol

We've got 2 test units to try out. It's hard getting things done this time of year though. Since I don't have an S2 car of my own I depend on outside help.
We are ready and I have great hope for the one with no spacer plate.
This unit requires only one mod to work in the Mx5.
Does anyone know if the next gen Mx5 will use the same box?
I just saw where Fiat will use the Mx5 as the base for a new 124 roadster.
It will be built in Japan I assume by Mazda.
A little Italian style on a Mazda is what we need. A little Jap reliability on italian cars is what they need.
Anyway just thinking if I can produce shifters for the Fiat that might get the sales up
