What am I looking at with this wheel set up?
I bought the car and it came with these
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...Lip&tab=wheels
which are 18. Although, the rubber on the rear states its 265-35 and the front are 235-40
I've felt that the car is sort of slow and doesn't have enough power to push the car at hard take offs. It's the 2007 base model, no FI.
At first I thought it was the coils and plugs and wireset (the car has 62xxx miles and I don't know when was the last time they were changed, going to do them first change I get, although the car doesn't idle rough, nor does it misfire or start rough. Is it possible the wheel set up is affecting my performance, not just handling but acceleration as well?
I would swap the wheels out, but I really like how they look on the pearl white body, and not just that, but buying new wheels and tires would not be in my budget at the moment (if I spend anywhere near a thousand or more on that, I rather give it as a payment for the car cause its finance)

235 is a good size but 265 is a bit overkill as far as driving, but it would affect cornering, not acceleration (noticeable). I'm sure you can keep the wheels but put 235s all around. How wide are the wheels?
Have you compared to other RX8s? If this is the only one you've driven, it's a bit hard to judge.

265/35R18 will be smaller in diameter than stock, changing the overall gearing for better acceleration. What width wheels are those? Are the wheels the same width front and rear?
I have a square setup of 265/35R18 on 18x9, and I don't consider them overkill for the street. I also do track days and autocross with them though, so I might have more justification than someone who does zero motorsports.

This sounds silly but how do I check the tire width? The wheels do look like whats common in low profile tires, but when I did the brakes on the rear, the tires were super wide.
Isn't 265 the wheel width?
The rubber has "265/35ZR18 95Y" on the rear.

The tire width is the first number, in this case, 265 mm wide. This is the section width of the tire, not the contact patch width.
The wheel width should be stamped somewhere on the inside of the wheel. Should say something like "18x9 ET45", which means 18" diameter, 9" wide, with a +45 offset.
The width of the wheel is independent of the width of the tire.

Okay, so I removed the front wheel because I was swapping out the headlight, and this is what the wheel mentioned
18x8 55JJ or something along those lines. I didn't remove the back wheel, but they're slightly wider so those are most likely 18x9.
Sorry for the late reply.
