Thunk/knocking noise

I'm getting a thunking / knocking sound from somewhere in the rear end of the car and I'm not really sure what or where it's coming from. Its an 04 manual trans.

Last month I took my car in to get a PA state inspected before a trip.
I pick up the car and everything is good. Load up the car and head out. About 200 miles later I start to notice a knocking noise from the back end.

I never hear it when I'm on the throttle or on the brake. I mostly hear it when I'm coasting and turning like onto a side street but sometimes I can hear it coasting through a parking lot or a strieght line and it seems to be getting a little worse no that its only 20 degrees out.

It sounds like theres something in the trunk that bangs off the sides but theres nothing in there and it happens kinda rappid. If I apply gas or brakes I don't hear it.

Any ideas what is could be? Is there a bushing that commonly fails with these cars?

silly but stupid because its happened to me but may be a loose lug nut,,, Mine only knocked when I was coastin, it wasnt knocking when I was on the throttle because its under load...
and being a state inspection they may have removed the wheel to check the brakes...

If you hear this knocking or thunking when you first move your car its norm. I heard on this board it was the ABS or pads coming off the rotors. Not shure its the samething you hear but hope this helps

double check all your suspension related bolts, I had a similar noise and it only occurred at low speeds when going over small bumps or making tight turns. I had 3 loose bolts.

I just had the same problem. Noise from rear only when coasting. Turned out 3 of 5 lug nuts were loose. Hit a big pothole on a road trip, noise started 300 miles later. Tightened lug nuts and noise went away. Thanks.

Jack the car up and check every nut that connects to the wheel hub the 5 wheel nuts and there are 4 bars that make up the multi link suspension check the other end of each bar that connects to the hub. When I do an alignment I often get a clunk noise after the suspension settles and need to tighten up the nuts again.
