Is that all the bashing I'm going to get????

Why cut them instead of installing new springs... To save $150? Not worth it.

if you think you're getting bashed then just be glad you're not the bump stops being used with the OE springs that are too soft and now also too short

So you mention that you are going to do this during spring "brack" ...

This means you are in college right?

You MUST have access to the campus library? Go pick up a book on spring dynamics, it really is quite fascinating. What is even more fascinating is that the core of the spring does the least amount of work .... and spring design tends to focus more on the top and bottom of the spring ... you know .... the part you guys decide is a good idea to chop off.

There are numerous safety measures built into the start and end of any spring ...

stop playing engineer, its not a game to be played by the uneducated.

So what you're saying is, if you cut the middle portion of the spring off, then weld the two ends together, you'll have functional cut stock springs?

Trollin' hard haha

For the OP... How much time was wasted researching, and cutting these?

I never understand it, people put so much energy in to purely retarded time wasters such as "cutting springs" when if that actually applied themselves in life they would be far better off... You should ask yourself "what is my time worth" then re-evaluate your decisions.

i want to cut these TINE S-tech lowing springs because when i installed Bilstein shocks it became ugly and soft so when i cut the springs it will be stiffer. the stiffer the susp the better handling. in my opinion.

you do realize those are progressive wound springs right?
you do realize that the chances of getting matching spring rates on all of your corners is slim to none once you cut them right?
you do realize that cutting springs can actually cause them to crack right since you are removing the wear treated ares of the coil?
you do realize that the shortened spring stroke actually puts more stress on your dampers and bump stops right?

the list goes on and on......alas, you cannot sway stupid

Instead of cutting the spring put a koni shock in it. If it was soft with the bilstein shock in it, all cutting the spring is going to accomplish is that you will be bottom out. Once you're bottomed out, ALL handling is gone. It's like a wheel locking up while steering, it's just going straight.

People still do this? this is what we use to do back in the 80's and early 90's to Volvos,Corollas,Datsuns,Mazdas RX-3,7's and 100's and the few other vehicles that where popular back then in the prehistoric import scene... LOL...Why do this to the RX-8 when now we got the internet and more than one choice for spring and coilovers!

This is what happens when a $30,000 car depreciates into the price bracket and demographic of ricers. Yeah, sure I picked mine up used, but you're not gonna see me put eBay garbage on my car, especially home-brew hack job eBay garbage! If you can't afford to buy good ****, save your money until you can afford it, or just keep the car stock, or better yet- sell it and buy a Honda. I think the engineers at Mazda and aftermarket companies MIGHT just know what the hell they're doing when it comes to suspension setups, what with a substantial R&D budget and all that (i.e. more expensive equipment than a hacksaw with a dull blade is needed).

That said, its your car, ruin it if you want, just don't come crying on here if (see "when") your "modification" fails.
