how much should i brake job cost?
Hey guys, i sent my car in today to mazda to see how bad the brakes were because i was getting really bad shaking while braking. I got a call that it needs new pads and rotors which i expected, what i didn't expect was how much they said it was going to cost. I was expecting about 800-1000 but was told it's going to cost 1600.
Does anybody know if this is normal or if i should be going somewhere else to get this done. They haven't ordered the parts yet because i told them i'd give them a call in the morning to see if i'm going to have them do it or not.
thanks
chris

If you can't do a brake job yourself, it should only cost a 6 pack and a pizza(plus the cost of parts.) There's got to be someone around you tat can give you a hand. Post in your local forum and see if anyone is willing to help.

$1600?! Did they ask you to grab your ankles?
As most here have mentioned, that is extremely overpriced. I purchased ceramic pads, drilled / slotted rotors, and SS brakes lines for less the HALF of that.
What exactly do you need done?
Unfortunately 'brake jobs' are one of the most over-priced things you can have done on your car. It really is quite simple, but dealerships make a killing on them.
Either get a few friends to help you or you could always look at a place like Midas. That might cost you $200 - $300 but at least that's better then the dealership

all they told me was that i needed new pads and rotors on the front and rear. He also told me that he's only charging me 100bux in labour which by the sounds of it is complete BS.
I have a couple shops around me looking into it so hopefully they come back with a better price.

$1600 that is rediculous, front brakes are super easy, rear brakes are only a little harder because you need a special brake tool but ti can be rented for free from most auto parts stores. For the parts check my for sale thread. https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-parts-sale-wanted-44/stock-parts-sale-off-07-6mt-low-miles-suspension-clutch-flywheel-more-169601/
Front and rear rotors with very low miles plus front pads for a total of $155 delivered.

Definitely post up where you are located at least. I am positive that there are some people within reasonable driving distance willing to help you out for a 6-pack and some food.

Thanks for the offers guys, actually found somebody today who is doing it for 800.
I live around Newmarket, Ontario and was quoted that price from Newmarket Mazda.
I know i'm still overpaying at 800 (taxes and labour included) but it's a mechanic that i know and trust so i'm ok paying that (especially after the 1st quote). Atleast i learned that i will not be returning to the dealership for parts
thanks again for the help

Let me know if you ever need anything. I mean ANYTHING! Milk, eyedrops, brake pads...I will get them and ship them to you!!! Pronto.
I have a flat rate of $500 for any item. I know that is a little high, but as you apparently dont CARE that you are getting shafted, I figure it is all good.
Enjoy the pounding.

The real shame about these kinds of threads is how incompotent and/or willfully dishonest and shameless a lot of dealerships are about these cars. Tell them to F right off and give them a negative review online stating why. This garbage needs to stop.
Edit.. oh wow threadsurrection..
