I think they are new for this season so I don't know if you will get any reviews. I ordered a set with 17" Momos for this winter. The tread pattern looks very close to the Pilot Sport Alpines I had on my GTI. The PSAs were great on snow and Ice but cost $200+ each. For the price ($118 each) I couldn't pass the W300s up. I can probably give you a ice/snow review around turkey-day since I'll be traveling over two mountain passes that usually have snow by then.

My wheels and tires are here. I'll post a few pics and if anyone wants, I'll post a few more when I mount them in November. The Momos are 17x8 with 38mm offset. Tires are the W300s in 225/55x17.

is it true that winter tires have more tendency to hydroplane?

I wouldn't say that is true. Almost all new winter tires I've seen look like they would evacuate water as good as or better then an all season tire. There are exceptions but most winter tires have an open tread pattern that is deeper than most summer and all season tires.

Part of the deal when I got my RX-8 last week was that they would throw in winter rims and tires at cost. They are trying to get W300s for me but they are on backorder.

Hopefully the tires will get to me before the snow does.

Nice wheels and tires. Where did you get them and how much were the wheels?

17x8 Wheels (Momo R1S) and tires were $848. Bought them at Beggs Tire Factory. They have stores from Colorado to the Pacific. Check with the local smaller companies before you buy off the web, they can have some great deals! Also, we tried seven different sets of wheels before we found a 17" that would clear the brakes. Although not that light, the wheels are also going to used for auto-x next spring. Kuhmo MX 255/45-17 tires seem to average around $150 cheaper for a set of four when compared to 18" tires.
