EBC Brake Rotors and Pads

Hey guys,

I had a couple of questions to see your opinions. I have read and did quite a bit of research, but before I pulled the trigger, I wanted your opinions.

First of all, if I am not going to spend the money for a BBK, is the stock setup better than what I would get with EBC slotted/drilled rotors with EBC pads (Green, Red, or Yellow stuff)?

Secondly, if the EBC setup is worth it, which of the pad sets I listed above would be the best setup for spirited everyday driving. Note: I do not track the car.

Thanks guys.

If you are not generating uneven pad deposits on your rotors, there is little to gain with the setup you described. For daily driving the OEM brakes are pretty good. If you are encountering pad deposits due to very spirited driving, choose a pad with a higher thermal range than the OEM. I don't have any experience with the EBC pads so I don't know which one has the higher temp range. General rule of thumb is higher temp range pads have more dust and noise. There is nothing to be gained with drilled or slotted rotors, EBCs or anybody elses except bling. See Brake FAQ https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-55/brake-faq-167264/

I agree in general with this statement about rotors. Crossdrilled are for bling. Slotted may have some use on the track, but not on the street. I do go to the track intermittently and will be trying EBC Red on the next brake job. I belive it's the Greens that are a upgrade over OEM brakes.

Like the OP said, if nothing is wrong with your braking now then there is not much to gain. If you are changing your rotors because they need to be then that's different. I have EBC 3GD rotors on my 8. They are dimpled, not drilled through. A little louder the stock, but that's what the stereo is for. I went with Hawk pads so not sure how the EBC ones are. Here are what the rotors look like on my 8.

If you are putting EBC, please put the yellow,
dont put the red
yellow is a lot stronger than the red one
I was using the yellow one, now changed to racing pad...is even better than the EBC...but so noisy...
the EBC Yellow pad is a good choice, i also have the EBC drill and slot rotors
running good
