When i was leaving work yesterday i stepped on my clutch and heard a loud pop. I knew what it was but my heart still skipped a beat. One of the crappy little spot welds finally broke. Its my own fault/being lazy for not welding it earlier. The clutch still worked to get home but felt really wierd so once i was moving I just shifted without it.

I pulled the assembly out last night to go use my girls dads welder. I got lucky that the bracket wasnt all twisted up like ive seen on here, and it went back together pretty easy. I didnt get to reinstall the pedal last night because it was late but ill take care of it after work today. Thankfully I have a couple of cars and a bike so it wasnt really a big deal just a pita.

Guys do yourself a favor as not to get stranded and take care of this if you havent allready. Its an easy fix/piece of mind. just thought I would share.

What year is your car?

I've visually inspected my clutch pedal and don't notice any flex @ the firewall; everything seems solid down there. I am unsure whether I really need the pedal reinforcement kit. Does anyone know at what point the clutch assembly was redesigned?

I have an '04 Touring. I would assume that I am at risk for this...

I have no welding equipment. I found this bracket out there:

Says "Easy to install with basic hand tools". Anyone know how true that statement is?

my car is an 04 and i checked my clutch pedal about a year ago when i read the problem. ive checked it several times since and it seemed fine but i was wrong. it only took me about 10 min. to remove with a 12mm deep socket and a 3" and 6" extention. oh yhea a pair of pliers to remove a clip that holds one of the sensor pluge in place. about 5 min. with a welder and it was better than new. if you dont have a welder you could probably pay someone like $20 to do it for you. imo it seems cheaper and probably stronger than the bracket.
