I tried opening the trunk lid using my remote key, does not work either.

Did you disable it, in the glovebox?

The fuse is a 30 amp, marked "D.Lock"

fyi there's a manual trunk open with your key in your passenger side tail light

but yes you probably hit the button in your glovebox by accident....I did the same thing a couple months ago and was pretty well freaked out

If your car is '06 or newer, you won't have such a button in the glovebox. It's only for '04-'05

Did you know that pressing the lock button twice will make the car go "Beep!"?

To prevent trunk entry when using the valet key.

Yea...and now for '06+ models all some a-hole has to do is smash your window and push the trunk release button under the dash and voila....your stash of hidden Asian hookers get to escape

Oh... meh... I don't keep anything in my trunk other than my duster and compressor. I think I'm OK.

YOU TOO? This happens way to freakin' often. Curse Mazda for allowing this. So many good hookers lost.

Seriously tho, why the hell didn't they continue this?

Still stumped

My glove box button is in the right position. When I push my remote trunk button, or the release that's in the car, I hear a clicking at the spot of the release, but the trunk doesn't open. In the past, it would eventually pop open after many times, but now it won't at all. Any other theories?

Just found this thread after a google search. Thanks for the tip. I never knew that button existed. I'm betting my buddy that was looking for change in the glove box the other day (to buy another White Castle Burger) saw it and thought it would be a funny joke.

+1 for another problem fixed!!

sorry to bump such an old thread but i just had this problem happen to me . My car is an 06 so i dont have the switch in the glove box. I checked the fuse box below the steering wheel on the left and all the fuses seem to be fine (not blown) however there is ONE empty spot .. not sure if its supposed to be that way. Anyone know what else it could be ?? I dont want to pay mazda like 500 bucks to fix it

Old Thread bump.

Rotary Rx-8, did you fix your problem??

Mine is also an 06, I started having a similar issue. The trunk release button inside the car works, but not on the fob (tried both fobs, no luck) and most annoyingly not on the little button at the back beside the license plate! Which I loved to use.. The fob works for locking and unlocking, alarm etc. but the trunk is being a bitch.

I never came to a solution. I know for sure that power is reaching the trunk. I replaced several parts with working used parts and still had no luck. I gave up and moved on to other things. Hopefully I'll get back to it one day soon. It's a bit of a PITA with it not working.

bump im having the same problem, no blown fuses & the valet button is in the correct position.. mine was somewhat intermittent where you would have to push it 2-3 times to activate the trunk release but then it stopped working all together.

there is the clicking noise when you push the trunk button below the dash & also does it when you press the release on the key fob.. have tried to see if any wiring is loose in the trunk area but all looks normal, nothing worn or been tampered with.

Did anyone figure this out? My Rx-8 is having similar trouble.

I only have a valet key, so I can't manually open the trunk, and the electronics have failed.
The fuse is okay, but I don't hear a relay activate when I press the release button.
