Tranny Hard to go into Reverse ?

Hmm, my tranny "seems" to have a problem.

Sometimes, ESPECIALLY when its cold, its "impossible" to get it to go into ANY gear. ok, let it run and sit for maybe a minute or 2. I can shift it into any gear EXCEPT first and Reverse. Fine I can go on with Gear 2 and maybe after 10-15 minutes of driving, I can go into first but still "kinda hard" to get it into Reverse.

Is my shift fork or tranny "finally" going? I had a "2nd gear" shift problem about 2 years ago, complained to dealer at that time(great neck mazda) they said its fine, and after that it seems to be ok.

but now, its really almost impossible to shift it into Reverse 90% of the time when cold. and 50/50 when its warmed up.

No good. Anybody got this "problem" ? -_- It started around 2 weeks ago, I didn't really pay attention to it cuz it was really cold that time, but I parked it in my garage now, its nice and warm, Still wouldn't go into reverse easy. got me worried.

48.3K miles right now.

Doesn't sound good. My Reverse gear has always been picky, but I can usually get it on the first try if I'm very deliberate with the shift. I always assumed Reverse didn't have a synchro, but if temperature is affecting you, then maybe it does?

I get that...

Mine does that too, but maybe not as severe as yours? It's just difficult to put in, and sometimes I'll have to put it back into neutral 3-4 times until I can really feel it go in. Mostly only with reverse. 1st you have to be close to a dead stop to get it in gear.

Don't forget, no synchros for reverse.

But I think you already knew that. If its under warranty let the dealership take a look. Sounds like you might get a new transmission.

if you cant get into rev, put it in first and move the car an inch or two forward.

then try reverse again, has always worked for me no matter what the weather..

or just get it halfway in reverse, slowly let out the clutch while still pulling gently into reverse and it will go in before the clutch lets all the way out.

+1 to what swoope said. I've done that is multiple cars before, usually does the trick
How long have you had the tranny fluid in there? What kind you using?

nope

Even if I could put it into 1st and move it a bit(even a block of distance), I still couldn't get it into reverse. one time I was trying to do a broken U-turn I was like wow ... I got stuck in the middle of the road cuz I can't reverse. took me about a minute before I can "finally" got it into gear (Lucky no car at that time, sheesh)

Im using my FIT now and the 8 is inside my heated garage. Will take it out probably next or next next week to dealership.

I changed and bleed the brake fluid, and I changed the tranny and rear diff fluid couple days ago. after change, it seems to be better, but its still there (still can't go into reverse easy, at least not when its cold)

Im going to have dealership to look at it. see what they say.

Not yet. Dont have the time to visit dealership.

The reverse thing gets better now, but still wouldnt go if the car is cold.

NYCGPS,

Is your clutch disengaging fully? (I haven't searched to see if you've had to deal with the broken clutch bracket problem).

Reverse isn't a synchromesh gear.

I think so ... dealership replaced my clutch bracket 2 yrs ago.

maybe its "coming back" again ?

the pedal used to have this soft feeling, After the brake fluid swap, the pedal feels more "firm" and it seems that its "easier" to go into gear.

Reverse still hard -_- when the car is completely cold, it almost impossible to go in. 1st is better.
