thinkin blown motor... again

i was on the highway and my car lost power an died down to nothing, got the car towed an the dealer tests car says that there is 2 coils blown an wanted 350$ to change 2 so i said il do it. car towed to my house all 4 coils changed and still nothin car is turning but seems to not be sparking ? so i take the plugs out and the two trail plugs are filthy and it seems to have metal and gunk on the plugs. so i clean the plugs and deflood the car. i test the trail plugs and they have amazing spark, the plugs are prand new all 4 anyways. so after all the cleaning an deflooding the car is doing the same thing turning but not starting at all. MOTOR BLOWN or what ? im out of ideas other than tow it in an have the stealership look again only prob is if the motor isnt blown im lookin at a hefty bill

I'd say manual compression test. Plug out, thumb over the spark plug hole, have someone crank the engine. If you feel no pressure on your thumb as it cranks... *sob*

Meanwhile, I'd check the leading coils AND your old coils before you toss them. Could end up being spares.

Man my car did the same thing. i went to pass the slower traffic and bam! stopped accelerating, loss power and then died. cranks and cranks but wont fire. after a week at the dealership, they said I need a new engine. didnt tell me why, just that i need a new engine. no powertrain warranty cause of the cold air filter that the car had when I bought my 8 used. so 6000.00 and i'll be up and running...*sobbing a wheeping* ... also he said all four coils were burnt but that was before they said i needed a new engine.

I am pretty sure they can't void your warranty for a cold air intake. Mark from the items you have in your sig, I dont think they would void yours either.

no they dont void mine i had my motor changed once before only thing is they made me bring my oem headers back to swap on but the cold air and hks coil pak didnt even give a mention for anythin by the dealer. the dealer couild care less the are gettin paid by mazda directly so they take there time, its similar to my work in construction wen the gc is payin to fix somethin we milk it for money

I don't think your motor is blown. A blown motor would still start and run. I am guessing there is a problem with your coil installation. Double check everything to make sure you've plugged the coils in to the right plugs and the right coil wires (not plug wires) are plugged in to the right coils.

Based on your description of the problem it is not due to a blown engine. A blown rotary still runs. Just runs like crap with no power.

i pulled the plugs and tested them up to metal and there sparking with rediculous amount of spark. like i said the trail plugs were black an had chunks of stuff and pieces of what seem to be metal. i got the next two days before i can get it to the dealer anyways so im willing to listen an mess around its worth a shot but right now the plugs are all getting spark

Getting spark doesn't mean the timing is right. They could be out of order. I believe there is a diagram out here on which wires go to which coils. I would double check your connections.

Also as I think about it I don't think bad coils would cause catastrophic power loss. They don't explode. They just start misfiring and causing crappy gas mileage. So I think your dealer mis-diagnosed. Although I'm sure your car needed new plugs and coils based on your description. So if you double check everything and you know you're getting spark then it must be something else.

Here is a DIY to double check your work against. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...t=coil+diagram

Next question. Do you know you are getting fuel?

i got brand new plugs and the coils. i did a deflooding cause dealer told me the car was probably flooded. i pulled the fuse for the fuel and pulled the plugs and there was gas an oil spraying from the plug ports so there is fuel its just not startin. i was kinda thinkin the dealer was ****** wit my car so maybe the order is off. they were pissed i denied the 400 bucks for 2 coils "deal"

That sucks, man. Maybe they slapped it back together and weren't watching what they were doing.

Well you're getting fuel and spark. The only thing left is air. Can you check to make sure your throttle is opening properly and your MAF is clean.

Pull your airbox off your throttle body and see if there's any oil inside and see if the throttle valve opens when you step on the accelerator when starting the car.

*UPDATE*
I am having to get a new motor, they found all four coils burnt white. carbon build up in the motor and yeah, because of the cold air filter, mazda power train warranty is voided. mazda asked for 5600 to replace, parts and labor. The warranty I have on the car when I bought it used from a Chevrolet dealer says they will cover the cost, however im not letting the dealership get any money from anywhere cause they were a bunch of money hungry bastards!! so lucky my warranty works with independent shops so my uncle is working on it. just have to pay a 200 deductable.
