Does anyone have the issue where the engine surges upon first starting in the morning? When I start mine (6-speed), I get a variable idle between 1K and 2.5K that seems to cycle almost like with the A/C on (but it's not)
Any ideas?
Thanks.

My car recenly started to do the same thing, but it only seems to do it as I back down my driveway and I have a fairly steep pitch, and it is only in the morning when it is first started.
i have that too, with my 6spd. its starts up and immediately goes to 2500 RPMs, and then slowly works its way back down to 1000. I have seen ither cars do this as well, and not sure it is anything to worry about.
Mine too. On the first (cold) start of the morning, the idle does search around. I'm betting it's perfectly normal.
By the time I back out of the garage, close the garage door, and start moving forward down the street (accompanied by the reassuring clunk of the ABS) all is well.

I get a similar surge of idle, but from 1,000 to about 2,000 rpms. However when I put the clutch in the engine goes back to normal idle. It returns to the surge mode when I let the clutch back out...all is normal once the engine warms up to normal.
when you first start and it goes to 2-3k then slowly goes down - thats normal. surging from normal idle to 2-3k then back down then back up- abnormal. it could be an indication that the neutral sensing switch is stuck so that when you move the shifter to neutral the pcm/tcm doesnt know it and is confused.
