strange clicking when accelerating...

Hi guys..

231 manual 2004

need a little help pinpointing origin of strange...let say...clicking sound, coming from engine compartmen probably.....
only heard when accelerating... when engine is under load...no sound on idle, or constant crusing (maybe it is there but i cannot hear it)
sound is nearly similar do hard drive when read-write

Changed all usual stuff plugs, coils, and so on...

i am suspecting something with coolant,...????

car connected to diagnostics (torque android) and no errors whatsoever...

goes perfectly, starts warm under one sec....
got video of sound.....heard when accelerating...it is like random clicking...not constant.....
best heard after 0:50

going to dealer in few days...

thanx to enyone who tryes to help :-)

we don get names here for fuel...but by premium i guess you think 98 octane.?
well i am using 100 octane fuel...it is pretty standard where i live...

i gues you aiming at pinging/knocking...

i asked same question on other forum, many guys have same issue, even with r3 rx8, and many think it is lean on fuel...as in mazda service bulletin, they say it coud be runin on lean mixture bu it is not an issue...

i have telemetry hooked up in car all the time, and it says mixture is ok...

so a bit of a dead end...
sound is causing no issues whatsoever, to me, or othr guys on other forum....
best way as it seems is to learn to ignore :-)

but i will try to find out what it is out of curiosity :-)

I have this very same noise on my '04 -- had it since shortly after my engine, cat and clutch were replaced about a year ago and I've been trying to figure it out ever since. Regular searches on the forum have come close, but this is the first exact match for this issue that I've found.

It generally only shows up under load (most pronounced going up hill), but if I stab the throttle with the clutch in I can hear it briefly in the 3-4k range. So I don't think it's anything related to the clutch or transmission. I only use 91+ octane and it's stock except for AFE short shifter and BHR coils. I also don't think it's related to MIAC since it's fairly faint and doesn't seem to get any faster or louder with increased RPM. My theory is that it's vacuum related. Maybe flutter in one of the valves, actuators, or solenoids?

If you figure this out, PLEASE let us know!

SSV? I had a ticking noise and ended up being the SSV sticking. $800 replacement at dealer. There are a few threads on the subject, do a search and you can find them. If you overfill the oil level you can get oil in the intake, which can they build up in the SSV and cause it to stick. Could be that? Not sure...

not ssv, since sound is heard clearly like chirping at idle, and then slight accelerator press and depress..

guy on the other forum tryed and changed allmost half a car...but sound remains...we agreed that we have exactly the same sound...
i am going to dealer tomorrow with ton of onfo that i gathered iand we weill try to figure it out..

I'm now having the same issue with my 2005. It started a couple months ago, very infrequent but now happens at least half the time whenever I'm accelerating. It can be at either low or higher rpms - so when accelerating fairly hard after a turn but also at highway speeds when passing. Also, doesn't matter if it is a minute or two after starting or if I've been driving an hour.

Does anyone have any clues? It is probably frequent enough now that a mechanic could reliably replicate it on a test drive but I'd like to give them as much info as possible to go on.

Exactly what I've got happening in my '05. One more clue though... when I hold the shifter I can feel the clicks coming up through the shifter as little shocks. Any answers since a year ago?
