now i love my car to death and i wouldn't trade it for anything else the rotary is simply the smoothest engine i have ever driven (obviously because its not changing up and down force to spinning force) now maybe its a compilation of some drinking however i have had my car for a year and i knew damn well buying it that they had terrible gas mileage and in reality i don't care its a small price to pay for the enjoyment i get every time i turn the key and i'm certainly not one of those people that a couple weeks in realize "the gas mileage sucks i hate this car" because frankly i wouldn't have spent 3000 the other day in a wheel and tire combo now never the less getting to my question and i wanna hear everyones opinion because its a big chance that i'm worried for no reason at all for the past year i have been getting 280-300 km a tank (yes i'm in canada) now i have read alot of peoples posts on gas mileage and i know someone is gonna be witty and say the classic "use the search button" but frankly after reading a couple i started getting sick at peoples complaints :P is there something wrong with my car? or in fact am i just being hella paranoid... somebody? anybody?

It all depends on how you drive your car and what mods you have done to it. The more you push the gas the more it sucks the gas lol sad but true.

well the wheels are my only mod and i drive very conservatively but i wanna know am i getting the low end of the scale? the point is there something wrong at the end of the day cus running some other peoples numbers and what ive read about some avrgs have it at 410 a full tank the only way i could get 410 is if i had a second gas tank in my trunk thats about it like i said i drive conservatively and im hardly ever cought over 5000 on a normal day anyway :P also keep in mind it could not be the wheels im not foolish enough to put heavy wheels on and i was getting the same gas mileage before on a stock wheel/tire combo

How many miles are on your coils and spark plugs? These are the 2 most common places to look first. I would also use either bg44k Fuel system cleaner or mazda's engine cleaner. How many miles are on your car too?

Have you tried Premix, plus be carefull on the combination of mods you do to these cars, there very sensitive and will cost you more gas + $$$ if the right applications, maintance, labor is not done correctly.

I use this Premix for each Gas Tank Fill Up, and defenitely get more gas mileage, plus better response and cleaning thru the engine.

1.5oz - 2 Cycle Castrol
2 oz - Lucas Upper Cylinder Lube
2 oz - Lucas Fuel Booster

56,567 km soo whatever miles that equals out to now how much is that is on my coils and sparks i dont really know i got the car when it was at 37,000 or so and i do all my mantience at mazda for the sake of me being busy and god forbid resale nothing helps more then all mazda paperwork :P would they have replaced the coils and sparks by now?

This is probably your problem. The 8 is horribly ineffecient at the lower RPM ranges. If you honestly drove your car like you stole it you would get some more mileage out of it. When I first got my car I was just coming from another manual and I was still shifting at 3K rpms and getting about 15mpg. Now I drive around town at 4K rpms and get between 18 and 20mpg.

wow really? im gonna fill up today dome some simple mantience add oil tire preasure ect. take some pic cus ive been a member for a year now and have added none LOL and ill try driving around 4k and see how many i get now i always fill up with 94 octane for the soul reason that ever engine i have owned it has made it idle smoother and when doing mantience on previous cars (i used to be a muscle car sorta guy) i had noticed a considerable difference on my engine am i getting any advantage on the 8 by using a high octane like this? whats recommend what should i be filling up with to prolong my car?

Your car is recommended to be filled with 92 or higher. You can run 87 in it if you want but some people do report misfires when they do. It will also help keep down your carbon build up as it burns cleaner. By you saying that you baby your car I am going to assume that you have a MT. You really should do some research on the car because your first set of ports open at 3750. By keeping it under you have actually been restricting your engine and building carbon like nobodys business. You may want to invest in some SeaFoam or ZoomZoom cleaner and just run it through as a precaution. I would also suggest that you start redlining your car. General rule of thumb around here is a redline a day for a second or 2. Redline a day keeps the Rotary tech away.

yeah well a good close friend of mine named Dan Beck is actually the mechanical ad visor for the BC rx8 club if there's anyone that knows rotary's its him never the less is 100% agrees and actually recommended to run it at a even higher rpm but we decided were gonna hold off on the seafoam tell summer its a tad cold in BC right now and should get warmer soon when it does we'll sea foam it now when it comes to redline i do it once a week but ill start doing it once a day thanks for ur help devilboi! i really appreciate it and anyone else that may have posted here cross my fingers that it will sunny up this week i really wanna give it a good wash and take some pic cant wait to post my new tenzo's

I agree with Devilboy, I drive 'non-conservatively' and get better mileage.

I get about 375/380 to 50 L (I'd do a little dance at the gas station if I ever got 410!)

The car needs a good blast of wide-open throttle now and then, keeps the internals cleans and free, blows the gunk out of the ports.

His pre-mix recipe is a good one also.

The best thing you can do is (wait for nice weather and) news coils wires and plugs. A great DIY, especially if you can get some club members to help.

hah if i ever got past 320 id take a picture :P but this weeks the testing week i just filled up completely and ill post back here when my tanks empty what i got out of it hopefully well see a big improvement when i driver harder hehehe its almost heaven sent its like god is saying "drive fast it will save u money" how many cars can u say that about :P
