My '06 Shinka has two smart keys, both of which start the car when in my pocket, and also unlock the doors and trunk when I'm within range and press the button. Both remotes, however, don't function when I press the buttons on the remote themselves. What's the deal? Any ideas? Searching revealed nothing.
Thanks in advance.

When you push a button on the smartkey, does the red LED (top left corner) light up? Even if it does light up, the battery might be low.
The battery is really easy to change. Just pull out the metal key and remove the rubber bottom of the card. I'd replace the batteries before I'd try anything else.
BTW, I think the batteries in the smartkeys are only used for 'button pushing' - the sensor loops within the car / trunk take care of all the other functions. Ie: the smartkey is really an RFID device.
Yeah, the LED lights up. I forgot to include that in the original post.
I thought the battery might be an issue, but it reads 1.5 volts on the multimeter. I'll likely try replacing it anyway.
RFID huh? I thought they could have been RFID, but discounted that notion after figuring that Mazda didn't put that much thought into a keyfob. That's pretty damn cool.
The buttons on my smart key didn't work also, and then I had to lean against the car to get the unlock button on the door to work before I noticed the key light flashing on the dash. All I had to do is change the battery, and all is good.
