Slow shift from 2nd to 3rd. Also slow into reverse.

Hey gang.

I have an 04 RX8 with 4 speed automatic transmission. 62,000 km. Original engine and tranny.

Car appears to be running perfect with the exception of when I upshift from 2nd to 3rd in manual mode. When I use the paddel or shift ****, it takes almost a second to make the shift from 2nd into 3rd. Other gears it is almost instant... (From 1st to second or from 3rd to 4th)

I also notice going from 1st gear, at a standstill to reverse, there is a similar delay, about a second until it engages into reverse.

It is annoying when I am getting close to redline in 2nd shifting to 3rd... if I don't "time" the shift right I will then hit the rev limiter and it does it's funky stutter...

Any ideas? Thoughts?

Thanks....

(Ya.. I know.. .I should have bought a 6 speed manual) Ha ha ha... Still might.

Thanks again.

Check the fluid level. Also, wouldn't hurt to have the transmission flushed.

I had a similar problem with my Acura TL and had the transmission fluid flushed. After that, it ran smooth as the day I bought it.

Even though your mileage is low, if you haven't had the fluid changed that means it's 6 years old and overdue.

Thanks!!!!

Just checked the fluid level a few days back... was good. Even looked a bit on the high side.

Dealer told me that it was all services before I bought it... I will clarify if they did do a tranny flush as well.

Thanks for the feedback....

i have a 05 and it’s a 4 speed as well not entirely sure what’s going on with the shifting but 2nd gear is a total nightmare for me. It’s hard to drive on and when it gets to about 5k rpm it sounds completely different. I’m going to look around in here and if I don’t find anything I’ll take to a shop
