Simple question about the clutch master cylinder

First off, please don't tell me to use the search function to solve this problem. I've been searching for 2 hours and I'm not finding the answer to my question.

I have been troubleshooting my clutch for 2 weeks now and am rebuilding the clutch master cylinder with a repair kit I ordered. I disassembled it yesterday checking for any kind of damage or problem and then got side tracked with other things that needed to be done. Now I'm back to it and forgot which way the valve is supposed to go inside the master cylinder.

Attached are 2 pictures of the master cylinder with the valve inserted different directions. All i need to know is which picture is correct, the 1st picture or the 2nd.

Did you ever get your master cylinder together? It looks like the first picture is correct. That end should have a pocket that the clutch cylinder piston actuator rod fits into.

Thanks for the reply. I put it together just the way the pdf shows. But no go, still working on it this weekend. I took the MC all apart again to see if there was a clog somewhere but everything seems to be fine as far as it's condition. I just put it back in, hooked up the reservoir and kept the line disconnected, covered that part with my finger and had my gf pump the pedal for me. Seems to make a vacuum in the line beautifully but refuses to take any fluid from the reservoir. Finally I said F- it and i'm ordering a new master cylinder.

btw... word of advice. Do NOT do what I did in the picture and expect a simple paper towel to protect your gf's beautiful table from brake fluid. It will get you in trouble...
