my dealer cannot duplicate the engine overheating that I experience everyday on 95+ degree days here in hott sunny dry Lubbock.
But my friend (a salesman) did see it happen with his own eyes when I took him to the bank one day. He is my only proof, but I am still not believed.

Be careful abou this....they did the same to mine but my big complaint was what permanent damage was done to the engine during the overheating phase....I would push the hell out of them to buy it back!!!!

Hate to drag out an older thread, but it needs to be done...
Has there been any update or information divulged from the 'team of techs' that were coming to do research in Vegas and Pheonix?
My car is now starting to have some problems (3000 mi on the ODO) and I am really curious what Mazda came up with to explain all of these problems that have been going on (esp related to engine repl)

You may want to check out an earlier thread under the title of BLOWN MOTOR. Some information you can leverage in diagnosis and possibly in discussions with dealer / Mazda North American Ops.

If it is in fact a design flaw, I will bet that Mazda will provide extended warrantee protection for such a failure, somthing like extending the warrantee to 75,000 miles for that specific problem. They will be forced to do something like that to maintain their reputation and their customer satisfaction. They won't let their flagship car go down in flames (so to speak).
Ford instaledl a new engine in our van due to a head gasket design flaw even though the van was over the 3 year/50K mileage limit on the warrantee. It turned out that there were so many failures of that engine that they faced either a class action lawsuit and/or a massive PR fiasco so they extended the warrantee to cover that problem. Same situation with our present van, a Honda Odyssey. Honda is extending the warrantee on the transmissions to 100K miles because of a higher than expected failure rate.
So those of you RX-8 owners approaching the 50K miles limit, don't assume you'll be screwed if your engine fails. Mazda will handle this honorably.

how about the ones that are around the 180K mark? because I was just told that I have a "blown" engine and need a new one. I wasnt there to here/see the results...dad took it to the dealer while I was at work, therefore I have no idea how true that was, but dad said that the tech was a mazda trained rotary tech, so im assuming he knows what he was talking about.

I wouldnt really say enthusiest...I bought it because I wanted a nice sporty car for a decent price, and it fit in my price range and it was extremely clean and ran pretty good...I thought lol I drove it for a week to the day, then it blew! but, for that week, I loved it hahah
