So I am coming off of my deployment soon (Afghanistan) and the RX-8 is the first car I have ever had to put in storage for over a year. When I get back what should I have done to it or checked besides the obvious, fluid changes, air up flat tires.
It's a 2004 with 35,xxx miles on it if that makes any difference.
Any help is appreciated, if this is in the wrong place, flame if you will but at least include some helpful info in there somewhere.
Thanks.

Hopefully you added some sta-bil to the gas before you left, or that might turn out bad. There might be more you have to do besides fluid changes, possible battery charge, but I'm not sure. You may even need new tires, hopefully they are still in good condition for you though.
do an oil change. mix seafoam in the gas tank and take it for a drive so the seafoam gets in the system. wash and complete dry the car inside and out. fill up the tank. pump the tires up. disconnect the battery. put a box of baking soda inside the car. cover up the exhausts. chock the tires and leave the car in neutral.
or just let a friend you can trust and knows about rotary engines take it for a short drive once a month.
Thanks jason, but I am coming back not, not going to. Yeah I added sta-bil before hand, I read about what I should do before I left, now I am asking about when I get back. Yeah I didn't think about new battery but most likely ill do that, Tires were brand new since 4 months before I left, so and that was driven with less than 2000 miles on them so I HOPE they are still good.
Glad you are making it back home safe.
I would change the oil out, and let it idle till it burned all that old gas out, or at least take it real easy on her till you can get some fresh gas in her. Inspect the tires and go from there, you said they were new so they should be ok. Might also wanna look at your brake fluid just in case it somehow got condensation/moisture in it.

oh, didnt read carefully.
before you start her up, cycle the keys on and off several times so the fuel system is nicely primed.
I would start her up and let her idle till its all warmed up, then take her for a short gentle drive then push harder.
