RPMs stop at 7K
Hi everyone,
I was out last week with some friends and we were doing some spirited driving. Hard acceleration and lots of redline shifts. Well after doing this for about an hour the engine was pretty hot I'm guessing. This was when I noticed that I couldn't redline it anymore. It would just stop around 7K and bog down like the gas was cut off. Does anyone know what causes this. I thought I killed my 13B but it was fine the next day.

Well what is weird is that the engine was fine once it cooled for two hours and I took it back out. I'm guessing that the PCM could shut off the last two ports due to excessive temperatures. That is just a guess. The car has been running great now. It only did it that one time when I was really driving it hard.

Hi all, please help my car has been giving me grief for sometime now. Previously she would cut off at 7500 rpm and after driving a while the engine would cut off completely. I no longer have a cat as we dont have such strict emissions rules here in south africa-so all the sensors are still in place and the original cat was replaced with a normal back box-this was about a year ago-now the stalling happens quite often once the car is hot(after about 80-90kms)-I have replaced the coils/plugs and plug wires yet there are still flat spots through the rev range and at times she redlines at 7500rpm she even switched off yesterday when I changed to a lower gear and revs went up...please help any advice will do!!!
Friends here have suggested the air flow sensor behind the air filter or possibly the fuel filter/fuel pressure regulator. On start up at certain times she also smokes heavily and its thick white smoke that comes out but stops after a drive her a bit hard in first gear.

warm car up, find a large empty parkinglot. get ur gas to about 1/3 to a 1/2 a tank.
i want you to speed up to about 50mph give or take, maybe even 60, heavy breaking into maybe 35-40mph (i want you to stay in 2nd gear, the rpm should be about 4-5000rpm, 1/2 throttle) , and ease into a large gentle wide sweeping left turn, slowly pull the turn tighter and tighter as the tire will safely allow you to do so (u should experience more and more side G force). Hold this turn for about 5 seconds, then do a right hand version, than just keep trying the left turn version.
What i am testing for here is faulty fuel pump, my fuel pump was going out and this was my sure fire way of reproducing the problem at command for the dealership service writer. if the fuel pump is going out, near the end of the high G sweeping left, your engine should show the same symptom as you have mentioned.. if not, look elsewhere for problem.
remember, safety 1st.
