Random squeak/squeal, narrowed down to belts? Maybe?
Hey guys,
I have searched around and can't seem to find a similar issue. Car runs great 6speed just hit 45k. I'm very good with routine maintenance but I have a squeak/squeal that I can pin down 100%. At first, during summer I would get a squeal when the ac was on...only sometimes and only when I was holding the rpm's in the same range for a few minutes. I checked both belts and they are still in good shape, no cracks or splits. Deflection was good too 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Now during winter I am getting the same style squeak/squeal without using the AC but again while holding rpm's. In both cases as soon as I vary rpm's it goes away. Its not very loud but annoying. I have narrowed it down to belts because of sounds and previous experience with bad belts on other cars. In those cases the belts were cracked or loose though.
I did buy the car used at 31k so I am considering just replacing the belts by using the DIY's we have here. I just wanted to know if anyone else has heard of this or if there is something besides the belts I need to look into.

air pump. you're hearing it more because it runs more in the colder temps
also remember - Anytime you are running the defroster you are cycling the AC AND anytime you have FLOOR selected the defroster runs, whether you selected it or not

^....................WUT?
Thought the air pump only ran at start-up to warm the CAT up for emissions.
I would get a small can of belt dressing and give it a little shot and see if it solves the issue.
