dont have a digital cam but the jist of it is that when i turn the key on then start it the radio display screen is completety lit. Every bulb seems to be coming on at once. I cant read the time, station, ac etc. Eventually it goes back to normal. I just put a new battery in. Is there something im forgetting to do since i replaced the battery?

Strange... Since the battery was the only change, let start there.
Could you give us the make/model of the new battery.

its an interstate battery direct replacement of the stock one. this is driving me crazy it only does it when i first start up from sitting. After its been running the screen goes back to normal. I did notice that when it clears up that the radio will get real quiet like i turned the volume down. Let me know what u think. Man i hate dealing with electrical. Why cant cars be simple like they used to.

Have you done anything with the head unit? Any audio/radio upgrades?
Have you ever messed with any fuses/relays?
Does this occur just when you start your car, or does it do this when you turn the key to ACC?
This is very strange and I'm looking for anything at this point that may help figure this out.

Take off the battery cable for ten minutes. Stomp on the brake pedal twenty times.

Then reconnect. See if that reset works.

I have quiet the same problem. I just bought my rx8 2004 two days ago. Yesterday, when I started my car, all the lights were lit up on the radio display. After 5 minutes, they were normal and after 10 minutes they were flashing and were really crazy. So since then, my radio display is crazy and doesn't work. The man who sold me the car told me that he changed the battery last week. Help me please if you find what's wrong.

***Scuse my bad english, I speak french.

Thank you, bye

Today, at 12:00, when I started my car, the display lights were freezed like when I stopped the car this morning (the time is 7:30) and when I change the radio channel, it plays the new channel but on the display, it's the number of the previous channel. The display is really freezed.

Hey there -

I have been having different issues with my display, but maybe they are connected.

When my car gets hot, the display will scroll total gibberish and Japanese and turn on indicators for the automatic HVAC that US cars were not equipped with in 2004.

I have been led to believe that this is a sign of the display unit breaking down, but I have not tried to fix it yet because of the excessive heat here at the moment.

Don't know if any of that helps you, but there you go.

Try looking at the fuse. It may be loose or partially going out.

hey rx-94 i found the problem with the display. i had a diognostic ran on it and it can back to being a short in the display screen. so basically you need to get a new display screen because the short is internal. I got a price on it and it costs about $200.00. If you are under warranty it will be covered.
