If something is shorting to the ground it would also be the only speaker to click because the others have an amp between point A and point B.
This is very smart thinking. Makes perfect sense too. doesnt solve the problem at all, but saves me the effort of tearing apart the center dash....so thanks.

I'm having the same problem - had some loud clicking/popping noises from the center dash, then the radio went completely silent, even though the display still says its playing, the CD player will spin up and "play" the tracks, etc

Working diagnosis: a short somewhere in the output cables.... I installed a custom multi-input setup a while ago, so i've definitely screwed things up in there i'm sure...definitely plausible...

oh, one more thing, if it can help anyone tell me whats going on:
if I pull the 30A audio fuse in the interior fuse panel, the stereo stays powered up (strangely enough), but upon re-inserting it, the FRONT speakers ONLY work for a minute or so, or until I turn the key off.

WTF does that mean?!?!? Does that localize the short to the wires going to the rear? If it IS a short, why doesnt the fuse blow? I wish I knew more about electrical crap but..... Thanks everyone!

See my summary here, we looked at the wiring diagrams, and this made sense, and replacing the amp fixed it:

I see nobody has posted this problem in a while but my 09 RX8 radio gets power but no sound
I've had this problem for about a year and last time I checked this forum I found a post for a guy that sent his amp back to Bose and they repaired it for free. So I called up Bose and they told me to send the amp, they found a blown circuit and repaired for free. This was great being a new amp goes for almost 1000 bucks.
So we put the amp back in thinking that must have been the problem and the stereo work.
later on that day it blew again. Since then we had about four people trying to find the main issue that causes this to no avail I have seen some post on here speaking of a clicking sound coming from the speaker that I get an occasional coming from my driver door.
All of the fuses are fine and there are no visible wiring issues.
This car was originally mine but my wife has since gave me her CX 9 and talked me into letting her have the 8.
Anyway if we repair the amp there still a problem somewhere and she's getting very frustrated over this no music issue and Bose has the system set up where you have to replace /rewire the whole thing
Also she called Bose and they said they don't replace them anymore and I'm well past my warranty and estimates of replacing the whole thing very pricey
I just want to know what this problem is and if I can fix it for cheaper, please help

I'm having this issue as well, my stereo plays cds, and I can change station, but no sound whatsoever from any speaker, I have a 2005 with the Bose system. From my readings I think it's the rear amp. I have a couple buddies that work in car audio that are going to help me replace it soon, I'll edit once they get back to me about some info I gave them.

Edit:

They are recommending this amp : Kenwood KAC-M1824BT

It's bluetooth enabled so you don't need to mess with the stock headunit to get sound from your phone. They said it may take some finesse but is doable.

At 300$ that's a little pricey I've also found this as an alternative: Lanzar HTG448BT

Not sure on the brand on the second so I'll probably go with the Kenwood.

I'll let ya'll know what happens!

Cheers!

Sounds to me that it's a relay within the factory head unit and/or factory amp in the trunk. This is just a wild shot in the dark but I think that's what it is. I was driving to work and all the sudden I had no sound the deck was still on a functioning but there was no sound. Once I got to work I turn my car off then put it in accessory mode and the sound came on for about 3 seconds then cut off again. This leads me to believe it's a relay.

judging from this thread:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-bose-speakers-doors-not-working-$1-67-relay-fix-218790/

the rx8's audio has had known issues with relays before.

when I have free time I'm going to pull the factory deck out and see if there is anyway to get inside to the circuits. I also have another rx8 that has all the audio working so I might just switch the decks and amps out to see if it'll fix the problem.

That's what I thought originally, too. Nobody ever knew/wanted to help me replace them, so when I heard of that amp, I figured go for it because it adds the bluetooth.

However! Before I went to get that system-- My sunvisor broke on the drivers side, and kept falling in front of my face while I was driving. I thought I taped it up good enough to ride a minute, But it kept falling.

So I ripped it off, the wires that go to the light touched, and pop.

So the dealer looked at the radio when I bought it, and they thought it was the head unit. I thought it was the amp, and didn't let them replace it. I assume they checked the fuses. I did when I got it home, they all seemed good.

So after I blow that fuse, I start looking through them for the burnt one, I come across one and replace it. Start the car, it's still being weird. I keep looking and find another one blown! Replace it, and bam! My stereo works.

Well mostly, the passenger side door doens't play, and I have to gently smack the drivers side one sometimes to get it to play. It sounds great though!

I'm having kind of the opposite issue......

I have a completely stock audio system that came with my 06 nothing has been changed at all

Instead of getting no sound I still have sound to all speakers but when I turn my car off and even after I open my door the radio remains on. I have disconnected the battery I've pulled the ignition fuse and let the car shut down and I've even pulled the cabin fuse in the kick panel after doing all these things I replaced them started the car shut it down and still no luck with my stereo turning off completely. I can press the power button and it turns off but still stays illuminated and causes my battery to drain.

Sounds like your radio is getting power from the battery from other places then the proper ones. When you pull the fuse for the radio does that cause it to shut off? Or only when you unplug the battery?

Display and Speakers don't work?

I have a similar problem. I have a 2005 Shinka, so it has the Bose audio and ect. All of my electronics worked fine except the 6 disc cd changer before this happened I was driving one day and I Slid into somebody's drive way. It wasn't a hard impact I just slid up and in the side, but my display AND speakers shut off. They turned back on once I backed down off the curb and we're fine the rest of the day. The very next day I'm driving and every so often the display will flicker on and off. Later that night I was driving down a bumpy road and the display started flickering on and off multiple times until it finally just shut off for good. I cant turn on/off the radio, the display is off I can't change between defrost or vents. It is just stuck on defrost(I must of had it on defrost setting when it finally went out?) The two ***** that adjust the heat and strength still work. Just no lights at all on the display and no speakers. I also did the DIY fix for the heating problem where the solder cracks(yeah I know, I don't know how else to describe it) it was easy and all of my electronics were working like new after that so I'm hoping this could be something as simple as maybe a fuse?|UPDATE| So today I noticed that the display and speakers would periodically turn on/off if I was goin up or down a hill and accelerated or decelerated. This made me think it was obviously not a fuse, but maybe a connector that may have come loose, or not fully connected from when I did the DIY. I started to investigate and once I pulled out the head unit (I think that's what it is called) I noticed four screws (Two on the left and Two on the right)had come loose and the "Face" of the radio was not pressed up against the back side. I tightned these down and sure enough, it was back to being normal. I doubt this is a common thing and I probably didn't put them in tight enough when I put them in the first time.

Batterie is good, alt is good, starter is good.

Here is the thing.
When Iam driving and hit 6k rpms in 1st gear it sometimes turns on
Or if I turn the car on or sometimes it comes on.
And sometimes the radio turns off well driving.

Anyone? anything?
It seems like your alternator isnt able to keep up with your stereos power demand...you rev up and alt works harder and produces enough to supply your system but not while idle...just because you alt is working doesnt mean its working well enough
