Unhappy Problems with new motor.

About a month or so ago I had taken my 8 to the dealer for starting issues. Its a long turn over before it finally starts. It started doing that to me after I moved home from Maryland. Well I took it in and they told me it was a compression problem so I was given a new motor. Well I get it back and it still has the same starting issues and this motor is just really loud? I mean I can't hear my cai anymore when I give it some gas. Plus it had a CEL on and it was valve stuck open and somethin else can't remember. But they tried blaming it on the CAI so I guess they just erased the code. Anyways today I was doing alot of reading on here and I reset everything I could find out suggestions to. Seems to have slightly more pickup but still taken longer to start. Plugs are just a couple of months old wires I bought sometime last year. Also when I'm driving at high rpms the motor has a loud hum to it almost like something is wobbling if that makes since. I took the coils off no signs of burn marks or anything so does that mean they are ok? I've took the CAI off where I could see the throttle flap and sprayed it down pretty good with some throttle cleaner. Thinking I should take the whole black part off and give a good cleaning is that wise to do? Another thing are these symptoms of a dirty ssv ??? Here in the near future I'm gonna get my fuel injectors cleaned and change the fuel filter to rule those out. Any suggestions ? Also if I just sit in my car and listen to it as its idling every now and then I'll hear a noise sounds like something tapping under the car and from the engine bay what is that??

The original starters will test fine.
I actually torn mine apart and checked everything according to the shop manual and nothing was outside of tolerance or shorted.
The motor will still spin... just slower, which for me was 166rpm vs 248rpm on the newer starter.
This was with the starters turning an engine, not by themselves.

Hey Jon could you recommend me a starter then ? Got some money coming in soon and a new starter is on the list and tomorrow headed to my moms to attempt to clean the ssv since my apartment complex frowns on working on cars. Wish me luck everyone!

Most people get them used here on the forum in the FS section.
But you can call around to local scrap yards and see if they have an '06 or later RX8.
You'll probably have to search pretty far since wrecked RX8s aren't common in every yard.
Getting a starter from them might be the cheapest.
Not sure if any forum vendors like MazMart has these in stock, but you can ask.

So search the FS section, search salvage yards, check with forum vendors.

Yes... All starters will fit no matter what year.
Not sure about the R3 though.

If it sounds like a wobble make sure your engine mounts aren't broke there was a recall for that...

As for starter had mine replaced twice just make sure you get the newer version the original one for 04 are junk.

my 2nd starter was pulling 180 amps instead of 90 and killed 2 batterys.

Finally got my ssv out! Fun experience for me and my mom and fiance who were watching and laughing at me lol. It was horribly dirty and lots of burnt oil on it. Guess that's to blame on previous owner and the Mazda dealership here. Catch can is on the list to get. Anyways did a lot of scrubbing on it and got it nice and shiny didn't think to take a pic. After I put everything back together theres a new noise. I'm pretty sure its coming from the SSV intake area. Almost sounds like a sifting noise like a lifter would be stuck in a motor. Whats causing this?

Well good news ! Talked to dealership today and the Mazda mechanic said they found a vacuum hose cracked possibly from the CHRYSLER mechanic putting in the motor. So at first they were gonna just order a new one but got a call today and they are just gonna replace the whole intake. Now my question is, is it just the upper and lower intake black pieces that are being replaced or what all is included in a new assembly?

All he knows is the upper and lower intake black pieces and the oil filler neck. So I'm wondering is that all cause he doesn't seem to know.

well tell them to stop all work on your car until they are able to provide you with the information about what they are doing. tell them you will not allow them to continue until they sound like competent people who know what they are talking about also tell them that you expect all the old parts back.
