ongoing problem. i'm tired of this.

I've been told a few times to take my car back to the dealer because my problem has been going on before i took it to the dealer and after. they didn't fix it. now since i really don't have a lot of money, taking it back to a dealer when i don't know what i'm talking about is a bad idea because they can talk their way around me, fix it cheap, charge me a lot, and my car won't be fixed still. here is my list of symptoms. they get stranger everyday.

1. when i'm driving on the highway at a consistent speed (60 or 70 mph) i notice that all the power is gone. i can put the pedal to the floor and it will not accelerate.
2. this happened to me twice, when i'm coming down a hill using cruise control the car should apply the brakes or something to keep me at the same speed but instead the car has gotten up to 10mph faster and when it gets up there i think maybe it decides to try to slow down but it doesn't. it just jerks. rpms up then down and up then down and it feels like a bad fuel pump or something.
3. also on the highway when i realize that i don't have any power, if i take my foot off the gas (not in gear) the rpms will drop but they don't stop at 1000 (idle) they just keep dropping to zero. the car won't start again for at least five min.
4. i have had a cel (p2096) intermittently.
5. also my idle isn't always 1000. when its not running right the idle is more like 800 and the car shakes badly. it will also making a loud ticking noise.
6. there is also a noise that sounds like a fan that goes off when the clutch is out but comes back when the clutch is in. i have no idea what that was. i noticed it in a drive thru yesterday.

any ideas?
at first i thought it was emissions now i think maybe electrical but i don't know.

Could be you CAT, but could be fuel system, or ... or...

The cruise will never apply brakes. If the hill is steep enough and your gear is high enough, then you'll pick up speed if the compression of the motor isn't enough to slow it down. This is the same in all cars.

<no idea>

Read this thread - same issues as you. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=p2096
End result: (on page 2) "Well, its confirmed...NEW ENGINE"

Doesn't sound good, but with that thread, I'd take it to the dealer, but in this case perhaps a dealer that knows how to diagnose the car better.

well you car should idle at 750-800 thats the spec. the shudder is probably a bad motor mount . you probably have a bad cat but the other symptoms could also mean new motor time.

where do you live?
