oil metering pump issues

so im going to try and buy a used car. on inspection of the vehicles service record it says the metering pump had to be replaced after it spit this code and then preceeded to not go above 55mph.

is this typical for a bad pump that should be fine once replaced or does it show a larger overall problem?

would the car being driven on a bad pump for a few miles do irreprible damage to the engine.

is the power decrease just the ECU trying to prevent the engine from getting hurt?

looking to buy this car! need help ASAP!!!

No need to worry. You are correct that it's the computer running in a fail safe mode. It won't do irreparable damage in a short period.

Of course there are other things you should have checked, as with any used car purchase.

Paul.

yeah the mazda guy said they did the 100 point inspection or whatever to get the extended waranty, and i know that a compression test is part of that. i just wanted to know if the issues was handeled correctly when it first appeared with the first owner.

Mazmart, anything elts i should check in peticular? plugs looked good when pulled, service record is spotless, only 20k miles. 2005 model. did a carfax report and even called the original dealership to pull the service record on the car before it was bought and during the first owners time with it.

im used to pistons engines, so anything im missing that is essential to rotarys?

Compression test suggested by Jedi should be a first thing check for all 8's. especially 05 vintage and prior. Also suggest checking the following web site and investigating if all recalls have been done and which TSB's were done and which ones haven't been done (but may need to be done). http://www.finishlineperformance.com....php?pageid=11

You can read the service manual.

Or you can have them do the Vacuum test.
