Oil light on but oil level fine

The oil light on my 05 came on a while ago only when it was warming up. Now it is on all the time. The oil level is fine and the oil pressure (stock gauge) is fine too. Is it an oil blockage (drives normal) or is it just the sensor

I presume it's the light that looks like the icon below? If your level is fine, then it is most likely a sensor issue, but there's no way for us on the internet to say for sure.

Early ('04 -'05) cars had faulty level sensors.

Dealer has a recall for it, it's the one on the pan opposite the drain plug, dealer replaces the whole pan.

Checked my oil like I always do, level was fine. Drove back to work (5 miles) light came on during drive, checked oil level again when I got to my destination, level was fine (exactly at the half point on the dipstick). Had the car for 10,000 miles (1 year) never happened before.

chalk it up to another failed sensor- 2004 RX8
VIN # is out of range on that SB posted above.

Don't these car's have engine oil injection of some sort?? I just inherited an 04 RX8 and according to my mother, the former owner she never had to add oil ever? I just drove the car 1500 miles at between 80 and 100MPH and it doesn't seem to have burned any. The oil light came on about the last 50 miles or so, but when I checked, the level appeared to be about the same?? Could this mean the injection is not working? I shut the car down and after it cooled for a little while I started it again and the light was off. This car is also having the starting issue, so I had the oil changed before I left, added a can of Restore, and added 8oz of 2 stroke oil every time I filled the tank. Seemed to run great the whole way.

I autocross my car alot. I use about 4oz on a high speed autocross with about 8 runs high rpm.

I use about 900 miles/quart of oil 5-20W normally. If this helps. No oil consumption would indicate a failed OMP oil injection system? Plugged oil injectors maybe? That would lead to low compression, wear and failure eventually.

Half way point is low level add oil learn how to read a dip stick. Any thing under full is a low level and on my 8 half way down is about 1 1/2 to 2 quarts low. Might not kick your light on but it is low. On the other topic I burn about 1 quart of oil in 3k miles. The OMP injects oil according to engine load ie. Run it hard OMP pumps more oil run it normal or easy OMP pumps small amount. That's how I understand it to work.

Sorry for the ignorance, but how do I go about having the pan/sensor replaced if its covered under the racall thing?

Do I just go in and tell them my issue and they have to do it?

Thanks in advance!

It wasn't a recall so unless you still have some warranty, the fix will be on you. Google Mazda Service Bulletin 01-013/04 for the TSB.

Crap, warranty is gone, 105000 miles.... I wonder how much they will want for the fix. I'll have to give them a call and see.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm just saying, replacing the oil pan and sensor is a really easy fix. I have done it myself on 3 cars and I'm only 19 was 17-18 the first two times. Takes no longer than an hour depending on the design of the car. For anyone who is or may still be having this problem years later. Just get a new pan and sensor and replace it yourself. Just a couple of bolts, buy some gasket silicone and get you a torque wrench and you'll be good! Dont forget to drain out the oil first!😂
