New to RX-8 Got a few ?'s
Well first of all. We really love the car!!! But have a few questions. We have a 06 RX-8 Shinka model(I think) Auto 6 speed with slap shift. 1in. lowering springs.
First. We bought the car with a GReady Exhuast system on it. Therefor we have no O2 sensors hooked up. I believe. This is cause REALLY BAD gas mileage. Anything I can do to improve that??
Second. When you put the car in Drive. It takes a sec before the gear really engages. Is that normal?
Thanks much for help.

Don't know anything about auto's on the 8 I never even considered one. But on the autos I have driven they a typically slow reacting. But hell don't know, wait for someone with an auto to chime in.
Did they just not hook it up? Is there a cel? How bad is 'REALLY BAD' to you, I usually see 14-16 mpg, cause I do a lot of city driving. If I do a lot a freeway driving I average 18ish mpg. Is yours worse than that?

Not sure. Like I said it was on when we bought it. Ill have to find a way to jack up car and look under ther. I get the felling he just straight piped it and let O2 sensor hanging. Kids around here dont think straight. And thanks We love the car. If we could afford 2 we would get 2 of them.

check it out on your 'trip' - it should give you a read out -
also - definately check out and see what's going on w/your o2 sensor - that's no bueno to leave it hanging there - poke around there when you have the car jacked up - i'm sure if that thing is hanging, there's a good chance some other things might be as well - do you know if the sparkplugs were recently changed out?

Anywhere from 17 to 21 is good for highway.
How many miles on the car? Slow reaction in shifting could be tranny. The car is modified, which means that there is a good chance it was "abused" or pushed hard.

[QUOTE=xtreme velocity;2827875]The car was serviced when we bought it. And the dealer said the O2 senso might not be hooked up. He could not remember. But I will check onto that!!
Man don't believe them when they say they "serviced it" I found my spark plugs in my dash when I bought it, they were supposed to change them out.

FYI:
The front O2 sensor has engine controls associated with it. If it isn't there/hooked up/problems, then your engine won't run anywhere close to resembling normal. AKA, you'd KNOW it!
The rear O2 sensor is emissions controls, only. It doesn't effect engine control, mileage, or anything. This is the sensor most likely not working, and to be honest, unless you've got an emissions test requirement where you are, you don't need this O2 sensor for anything.
BUT... Your O2 sensor may be working just fine. It may actually be telling you something useful... If you've got a check engine light, former owner and/or shop said O2 sensor not working right, I'd pretty much assume you've got a catalytic converter issue, aka, it's probably clogged up. That'll cause some extremely bad fuel mileage...
Go to your local auto parts store, and ask them to read the codes for you. Most places will do this for free. Then look online for Mazda OBII codes and lookup what the error is. This should get you started in your troubleshooting. Until you know what the stored fault code is, you can't begin to figure out what the problem is.

[quote=AJ's Shinka;2831068]I have not seen or heard of an auto Shinka before... Yeah 50 miles and you should be down 1/4 of a tank. That is normal, I get 200+ mpg to the tank depending. It's a sports car. If you mean 3 ticks as you are 3/4 empty after 50 miles then something is definitely wrong with your car, as a matter of fact that is the worst gas mileage I have ever heard of on the 8.
It may not be a shinka. Just when we ran the vin on car fax it said that it was. and when i said 3 lines. I meant the little bitty lines on the gas gauge. not the bigger ones. we had it serviced anyway as well just in case. Only thing found was AC belt was really bad. And its hard to find anyone who knows anything about these cars to have it worked on. Some guys we took it to did not even know where the oil filter was. and even I knew that. So we took it to many people till we finally found someone who knows about them. Still have not been able to get under car and check for O2 sensor yet. Do I need the back one hooked up?
