New Recall SSP 76 Canada only??

New Recall in Canada anyway....04-08 RX-8's

SSP 76 Oil Cooler Hose Special Service Program

On certain RX-8 Vehicles the oil cooler hoses may show premature amounts of corrosion due to the deposition of muddy water containing road salt, which may cause perforation. Under severe conditions this may result in an engine oil leak

That's if they have to replace all 3 hoses, Gasket etc.

2.1 hrs labor for all 3

We've had this recall for about 3 months now in the UK, and we've had oil lines going through in cars less than 3 years old!, MAZDA have changed the plating on the pipes and also done a wheel arch mod to seal the area, although i'm not happy with MAZDA's dodge which involves sealing the arch with silicon!
We've also had trouble with SUMPS rusting through, so we might see another recall for this.

I was surprised how corroded mine were...in an area where we use very little salt.

You guys on the East Coast where they dump the stuff on the roads in the winter must really have a problem.

I figure they are doing a roll out type of recall...that way they don't get everyone scrambling for parts at the same time...

Are they improving the parts or just replacing them?

Where are these hoses?

I drive my car in the winter so I am sure mine are toast.

The parts MAZDA use are an improvment over the old ones in the fact they have changed the protective coating on them, the old ones are sort of a silver/gold colour, to access them you need to remove the front wheels and inner arch linners, you'll then see the pipes.

the hose that goes from engine to left oil cooler, then from the left to the right cooler, then back to engine.

I think I see what you mean, I just looked at mine and yea it is showing corrosion.

Sooner or later MNAO have to patch this sucker.

I talked to the dealer yesterday...they are only replacing the hoses that are leaking...but they have not put a time limit on when the hoses can be replaced...

Another thing they are doing is retrofitting the fender liners...and removing the vents behind the oil coolers...not sure I'm liking that...I think I will leave mine alone...I can't see how closing those vents will help the cooling of the engine in any manner

I was part of the recall when I brought her in for oil change in early May. They didn't have the parts to do it, so mine are not done yet.

The recall came out at the end of April 08.

I had mine done yesterday. Said he changed all the hoses. Also, said it took them close to four hours of labour.
