New engine question! PLEASE read.

Hey all,

Been a while since I've been on here! Basically my engine was on its last legs. Had a compression test done and the rear rotor was lacking horrifically.

Saved my pennies and got myself a new engine! Not from mazda as they quoted me £8000!!!

I found this specialist in the UK who actually deals with most of mazdas engine work seen as their mechanics are basically fitters who know nothing about rotaries what so ever. Cannot believe how mazda can sell a car and not train any of their workforce to be able to work on them! Anyways, rant over.

I had a reconditioned engine put in. This guy knows his stuff and does make a superb job. The car is running great. Still in the running in period at the moment, not going above 4000 rpm at the mo.

My 8 is the 231 version, 6 speed. As i just like to check these things, i want to make sure he hasn't given me a 190 engine. I know the difference is in the amount of ports, mine having 6, but to save me trying to crawl under the car or get it on the ramps i was wondering whether anyone could confirm that its not possible to fit a 190 13b to a six speed transmission?

Im wise with mechanics and engines but I'm a dummy with some things

Hope someone can help or show me an easy way of telling.

9000rpm redline = 6 port
7000rpm redline = 4 port
and I dont think you can crossfit these two engines since there are some differences for the induction system.

The only way your mechanic would have been able to slip a 4 port engine into your car is if he was willing to pay for every part that needs to be changed with it.

Intake manifolds, ECU, Transmission bits, etc.

He would actually LOSE money trying to give you the wrong engine.

So, this is one of those cases where you can take your nervousness about possibly being cheated out of your hard earned money, and stop worrying about it.

The real clue is if your car, with its replaced engine, now feels more powerful that the engine that was originally in your car.

BC.
