except a TSB isn't covered under warranty is it... About how much would something like this cost to fix if a dealership does it? (it if is actually cracked).

I don't have a K&N yet....

I still wish I knew what I did yesterday. It is certainly not so violent anymore but its kinda shaky. Before yesterday it would sit idle ok and then the whole car would make a pretty violent vibration and then go back to normal.

Now it just kinda sits there and vibrates a bit constantly. I'll get some MAF cleaner tomorrow and a maybe the K&N if advance auto parts has one in stock and see if anything changes. I really DO NOT want to bring it to the dealership to have them look at it. My wife will flip some ****. She already thinks I am spending way to much on this thing.

I bet its the mount.... damn

This only really happens in D, P and N are not really doing this. Though mine doesn't fall into the years in the TSB (not that mine couldn't break)

If that is the case, so much for a redesigned mount.

is it possible to visibly inspect the mount without having to jack up the car or hpist up the engine?

Clean the MAF first.

Fill the tank with some quality 93 octane as well, just to eliminate the bad gas variable.

Gas is NOT a variable. It does it no matter what kind of gas is in there. I've used multiple different brands of gas and octane ranging from 89 to 93 and it does it.

Throw on the AC and it's worse.

so, how did this play out, since it wasn't the mounts after all?

i just had the mounts replaced on mine (60K) and two coils replaced plus the spark plugs and wires because it was doing the marbles in a can thing. (i am sooo broke it's disgusting). anyhoo, now I have a new issue..... it idles at around 900 and seems like it wants to die at idle....never did that before. after warming up it idles right at 1000 rpm but still sounds rough and i am revving it up to make it sound better.....

i think they set idle too low when they worked on it.
so, what is the proper idle rpm? what should it be set at? is 900 too low?
could use some input before i ask them to reset the idle.....thanks

I think dealership wants to rip you off by "wanting" you to replace everything, which is not necessary.

You just need to replace the mounts, which is like 140-160 bux for 2.

I also found myself in the same boat with a broken mount. (today). Now i'm looking to buy a set and avoid going to a dealership. Tomorrow i'll check with my mechanic if he can replace them for me. But i'm having trouble finding the replacement parts online

2005 Rx8 AT

Edit: I found the link to get the mounts. Ordering soon. When in P and N everything is fine. When in gear my car is a massage chair, and when the A/C is on it gets crazy...

But i tried junk yards and couldnt find any rx8s at the time so im just waiting. Did you guys order them from the mazda site or from where?

My car kinda does this but I think it's the fan coming on. I hear a LOUD click and the car shakes and the rpms drop and then stops, 5-10 seconds later it starts again and does that all the time when the engine is a temp and idling.
Just for the sake of a little time, try playing around with your settings for vent controls in the cabin - floor only versus floor/dash split versus floor/defrost with no AC on, same with AC on, and so forth. Each time you change a setting, check what both the fans and the AC compressor are doing. See if there is a correlation between when your getting the most severe vibration and what the controls are set at.

Here is why I make this suggestion:

2005 RX8 AT

I noticed something different today. I decided to look around my car and find out where the noise is coming from when the engine starts to vibrate. In P and N while idle everything seemed fine. When it was a cold start the vibration was slightly noticeable even in P and N.

I didn’t have a jack at the time so I just turned the wheels all the way to the left and then to the right to check the engine mounts. I put the car in gear and the vibrations began. I went to check both mounts only to see that they were fine. The passenger side was moving a little bit more than the driver’s side.

I have this noise that happens when the engine is at its worst, and when the a/c compressor is on. I looked under the car and noticed that the tapping noise is coming from around the oil pan and catalytic converter. Something was hitting the frame of the car. Without a jack I could not see.

When the car is in gear the idle is below 1k rpm, around 800. When the a/c compressor kicks in its drops the car’s rpm to 650 for a second. At those rpms the vibration is really bad. When in N and P the rmps are at 900. Is there a way to modify the idle rpms?

One thing that baffles me, I went on a Trip to Fort Worth from Dallas the car wormed up but still was vibrating in gear and worse when the a/c is on. So I had to keep putting the car into N while waiting at any light. The next day I went out to look at the engine the car was bathing in the sun for the front end. So it was already warm. I drove around the block a couple of times and the car purred like a kitten. I didn’t use the a/c and kept it in gear at the lights. Did notice one more thing not sure if its anything, but when in first gear and going about 5k RPM the engine sounds different above that, only in first gear. Maybe I'm still a noob, but it’s noticeable to me.

I'm going to replace the engine mounts anyway in a couple of days, and my spark plugs. I'll have my mechanic pin point the noise before those things are replaced just in case.

Here are all the new and older TSB. Older ones apply only if you still have a bumper to bumper warranty. There is one talking about engine mounts.

2005 RX8 AT

Just to do a quick Update: Replaced both engine mounts and now it's running smooth as butter. Also replaced both sets of spark plugs and the oil back to regular from synthetic. The problem was the mounts.

P.S. When i did a visual check of the mounts with the engine running in gear, neutral, and off, i did not see a problem with the mounts until they were taken off.
