PA MP3 Adapter/CD Player no longer works

Hi. I'm new to the forums as well, I bought a 2004 RX8 about a month ago and the only annoyance for me was that there is no input for an MP3 player.
I purchased one online "AudioBaxics"is the brand. It worked fine for the first day after I installed it, then the next day I could not switch to "CD" for the external CD Player function.
I pulled the radio out again and reseated the 16 pin connector on the back of the unit, no joy.
When I put the radio back in this time, I got the ever popular no display and no HVAC controls behavior that I've seen referenced many many times in these forums.
Today I pulled the radio out completely and took it inside. I removed the 4 screws that hold the faceplate onto the radio itself. 2 of the inserts that the screws actually screw into were loose. I fixed both of those with a drop of superglue and screwed the assembly back together.
I put the radio back in my car and "viola" I got the display back, I got the HAVC controls back, the radio works and I was able to switch to the "EX" setting to use the MP3 player. I would turn the radio off and assemble the next connector, turn the radio back on and make sure that I could still change modes (even from the steering wheel) "no problems" at all. I got everything back together and started the car.
PROBLEM
Once I started the engine, I have once again lost the ability to switch to the CD function on the radio and the MP3 adapter is now a $50 useless wire hanging out from under the dash on the passenger side. I though that maybe I pinched something when I routed the wire inside and under the shift cover, so I pulled it all back out and just have the MP3 adapter sitting on the passenger side floor.
Any ideas what would resolve this short of replacing the entire head unit?
Based on the behavior I've seen today and a few days ago, I'm not sure that replacing the head unit would actually resolve this issue.
I don't want to spend $250 for replacement radio/head unit if that won't resolve the issue.

I lost my Grom Audio unit, EX display and CD player.

After about a month I went hunting and discovered the fuse map somewhere on here. I went into the cabin fuse box and found one of the two audio fuses was about to pull it but noticed it felt very loose. I pushed it in and voila - everything fine.

If you have been playing with lose wires I trust you have checked and double checked your fuses :-)

Good luck
Steve

Steve- Thanks
I did check the fuses, #2 and # 11 are good. I pulled disconnected the adapter again and got my cd player back so I stuck a CD in there, then reconnected the MP3 adapter and it worked for about 10 min, then it died again. Now the mode button only scrolls through FM1, FM1 and AM when I use either one (the one on the steering wheel or the one on the radio itself). I'm going to try disconnecting the negative battery cable and let it sit for 15 min then reconnect and see what happens.
I noticed in another thread that it stated something about resetting the dsc?!?!?

I had to do the battery reset recently and IT WORKED. I was also advised to go to the GROM site and get the latest firmware upgrades. The link there is a bit counter-intuitive with the oldest one being the first one you see so make sure you have the latest update.

Good luck

I'm having the same problem Caffeine was having . Fitted an aux cable to the head unit . The cd player worked to start with then didn't . So i pulled the unit out again , put it back in and the cd player worked again . Then a day later , it stopped working again !!!! GRRRRR!

Anybody have any clues as to what is going on here ?
