Don't Know, my car doesn't have cylinders, it has rotors. If I got a misfire on a rotary engine the CEL light flashes a few times then goes away. If the CEL doesn't stay on and the car runs fine don't worry. If not go the the dealer or get new plugs. Bad coils could also cause this. In your case I advice going to the dealer.

thanks bro, here it is (P0302 Rear rotor misfire detected Flash/ON 1 or 2 Misfire) ...i will change all spark plugs and then resort to the coil...but will this ruin the motor by driving in this condition.

thanks

Flashing cell that goes away- random misfire. Will not harm the engine.

Solid cell that doesn't go away- something else. Continual misfire will seriously degrade engine performance, so take it to the dealer for diagnosis.

How many miles do you have on those spark plugs, or the car for that mater? You might get it all taken care of free at the dealer. Give us more info about your car.

gents,

thank you for the concern and info.....i currently have 18758 odd miles on the vehicle. my current question is :
1) i recently installed agency power pulley (crankshaft) - following that coincidentally when you would drive it or rev it higher than 4k it(CEL) would flash and go away. could this be the crankshaft pulley causing CEL despite the obd2 saying rotor2 misfire?

2) now that i completely reseted the vehicle by:
-take off battery for 10 minutes
-insert key and turn while pushing odometer reset
-insert key and press brake pedal 20 x or more till the oil pressure does it thang...lol
-then i drive the car slow and allow the dcs and tmps to clear from the dash.....

my question is since my CEL dissappeared does this mean i dont have a problem....?

either way i am going to Mazda which i already made an appt to have them check ....that and compression.....hummmmmn

I experienced the exact same thing after my pulley install a few weeks back. Disconnecting the battery was the right thing to do. You should have no more CEL's, and no harm was done.

The reason the CEL's (flashing & solid) happened was your PCM noticed a change, and 'assumed' you had a misfire.

hi

i recently bought rx8 04, had engine eplaced on 66k , plugs and coils changed at same time along with radiator......................i was driving around today and had engine misfired .......
i might be doing something like 180km/hr. around 7000 rpm. i had same issue once bfore near around same figures before. i happened whe i was going from 3 gear to 4th gear and i flored the gas.

however when cell was flashing i eased on gas and let rpms droped and drop down to 3rd again after fe mins i start pushing it again just to make sure whts going on as cell disappered. this time i didnt flore gas all the way but no cell was doing 200 almost.

came home even though cell was not on i scanned system it came up with p0302 2 n cylinder misfire no data frame stored though. if u guys could help tht be great and save me a trip 2 dealer and few bucks............thanks.

noticed next morning my exhaust is pretty much blacked out, i wasnt driving my car hard in winter so i have doubt this might have happened due to carbon built up ...............

Hi hopefully u guys can help me. i bought a 04 rx8 it has 94k miles the engine was bad which i knew when i bought it. the cooling seals went bad. i bought a re manufactured engine, coils, and plugs from Mazda. i installed them and the car started right up. this is my first rotary. on the first test drive i got a check engine light. the code reader reads P0410 secondary air injection system problem and P0302 rotor 2 misfire and P0300 random misfire. i bought NGK wires installed them still have the same codes after i cleared the codes. the air pump turns on for about a minute when i start the car cold. the car also doesn't seem to do well after 6k rpm under load but in neutral not problem. can someone give me advice?

Cross posting the exact same post is bad forum ettiquette. Don't worry, people can see your first post. Give them time to respond.
