Knocking noise, loss of power in low rpm range

Im taking my car to mazda to have them check out an issue that came up yesterday at the race track. After the day of lapping, on the way home, I noticed the engine began making a knocking noise, and was quite concerned. But what made me more uneasy was that my car had a huge lose of power, and a large hesitation between 3000 - 5000rpm. I mean if i get on it (especially in third) the car starts shaking and has trouble raising the revs.

anyone have any idea what this could be? I have a 2004 6spd with 36000km's.

Any help would be appreciated

Make sure you tell them this happened on the highway for starters.

Could be CAT failure, Motor Mount failure, but the knocking noise, can you explain that one better?

its basically almost similar to what people describe as a marble in a can. but a little bit deeper of a ping. It occurs about 3 times per second at idle. once moving it is hard to hear, but i think that because of other noises (IE the road, or wind). It i stick my head under the car is appears to be coming from where the oil pan/header are. another odd thing, is I have no CEL.....

just to let everyone know, I found out from mazda that one of the spark plugs became dislodged, and was not providing any combustion. Thus, somewhat flooding the car making it hard to start, giving hesitation, and rattling around.

Oh man this is the same exact thing that is happening to me right now. Like exactly. i seem to be the only one that hears the knocking sound but i hear it. My car goes to Mazda monday for the issue. Suppose i should have them check the plugs first huh? THANK GOD FOR FORUMS. Any other suggestion of what i should say to them. Upgraded plugs a possibility?

Angry Well here it goes again

I was driving to work today. Its about 90 out today anyway as I was going thru the gears I noticed the engine rattling from about 5500 to redline. Its done this alot, but this time the traction control light kept coming on. Im not sliding or stopping hard. The car is a 04 with the 6sp with about 88000 miles. Ive done all the required maintenance and got all the flashes. I take good care of this car. The last time I had the rattle problem the dealer replaced an ignition coil, when that happend the car would not idle and I would have to blip the throttle to keep it from dying. I think my zoom zoom mentality is waining.

I have seen to check engine light enought since ive had the car and what I saw was not a CEL. It doesnt make sense to me either. Looks like another trip to the dealer.

In case that one of your spark plugs becomes dislodged can you put it in its place by simply pushing with your hand or it is not possible?

I mean what is the process of putting in place a dislodged plug?

robotman, it sounds like your traction control is malfunctioning and firing the brakes, which would make stuff rattle.

If the traction control is mulfuctioning you see ABS check light permanently.

What have you tried so far?
Statt going down the list: spark plugs, wires, ignition coils, catalytic converter, vacuum leaks. Are there any check engine codes?

the code just says engine misfire and I haven't done anything yet the very first thing I was gonna try was spark plugs I figure I'll check the forum to ask for suggestions because there isn't any machanics that want to touch a rotary engine around here.

Spark plugs, wires and coils. Do them together, they are 25-30k mile wear items.

Knocking noise could be a stuck SSV.

How did you determine the coils are good?

When you say the right side of the engine, is that the driver side or the passenger side? If it's the roughly in the passenger side, it could be your intake valves as someone pointed. Look up how to troubleshoot the SSV, see if you can move it by hand.

I had the same knocking in my 05 GT. Ended up being rear stationary gear bearing failure. If the knock sensor detects knock, it will retard the timing and you will have reduced power. This is normal to have reduced power when knock is present, even if its not from poor or improper fuel. Its time for an engine.

the noise is completely my from the passenger side. I removed the boots off the coils while on to see if they were good all of them seem to be working. What does the ssv valve all control and yes I'm starting to incline towards new engine

You'll be able to see the SSV rod moving causing a knock. However from the video the knock sounds like bearing knock over an SSV knock. I posted a video on YouTube of my engine knock and found that the rear stationary gear bearing was faulty. In the 18 years that I've owned and worked on the RX series, I have never heard a rotary knock before my 05 GT. It seems that it may be a Renesis issue.
