So, my 07 RX8 has the keyless entry flat card key deal, and the card key is totally dead- no remote, no transmitting, nothing. I've been having to get in, lock, and start it with only the physical backup key.

I just got it back from the dealership, where I thought it'd be covered by warranty. It isn't, and they want $385 to fix it. That's way too much, and I know that almost anything the dealers do I can do for cheaper.

So, can I get my own new card key and program it? I know it's possible for normal fobs, and I hope it is for this too. I also have a normal fob from my old RX8, could that be adapted for use with the keyless system to function like a normal start? If anyone knows, please help me out. Thanks!

Search the forum for "FOB Key Programming". Unfortunately, to re-program or program a FOB switch-blade or flat card key, you will need two working keys(vallet key counts). Otherwise, you'll have to purchase it from the dealer.

So, you only have one key that had the non working FOB? You would have to order it from the dealer... Try reading the DIY: Key FOB and post your concern. A lot of other owners have switched from the '04 key FOB to the switch blade type. They may offer some advice if you only have one working key.
