ON Idle seek ONLY when in gear and clutch in...

OK! So here goes, I don't have a rough idle, and my 05 rx8 6spd idles smooth when in neutral at about 725-750rpm. But when I push the clutch in and put it in ANY gear (*without releasing the clutch*) it begins idle seeking between 1300 and 725rpm... I Have NO clue why it would do this in gear and not in neutral, I mean if it did it in neutral I would check the MAF, all the airlines, and my intake and throttle body to make sure it was all good. However I did all of that anyways and THOROUGHLY cleaned all the parts... no engine codes, nothing... any advice or fixes... possible causes?

THX!! ^_^

Idle seeking at those RPM ranges is usually a sign of a bad neutral switch.
But I would think it would also do this in neutral too...

Did you resolve your issue?...I hope so as I have the very same issues. Idles fine in neutral with or with out clutch engaged, and the rpms hunt between about 1500 and 800 when in gear but not with clutch depressed.

Update for the record

Issue was the clutch switch, it would not close the circuit. The plunger on the switch would not fully expend therefore not completing the circuit. Verified by taking the switch apart and fining a broken spring inside.

Part number GJ6A-66-49YA, cost $12.47. Hard problem to isolate >easy to fix. Sure glad it wasn't the Neutral switch.

good man! I ended up cutting the neutral switch in the transmission and creating a closed loop with the two wire ends, got rid of cruise control for now but I'll rewire it and test your method see if that what it was...

Just test the switchs open and close state while it's in the car. I understand both the neutral switch on the transmission and the clutch switch on the cluch both seem to create very similar symptoms.

My clutch switch was the problem when this occurred. I may also be replacing the neutral switch as a sysmtom of a very intermittent starting issue.

Seems the car is developing some needs that I need to keep up with (just passed 180km).

mine actually do the opposite
rpm drops to 0 once i clutch in and all the warning light (low voltage etc.) turn on
but once I release the clutch, rpm goes back up and lights go off

is it also because of bad neutral switch?
cuz I know I am having bad reverse switch too

ok, this threads been dead for a while, it was because all the seals in one of my rotors were blown, so I was running on half an engine, don't know why the neutral switch worked to trick it, but getting a new engine fixed it properly, and wouldn't your engine turn off if it dropped to 0?

when the car is in a full stop at 1st gear, everything seems normal

RPM will only drop to 0 while the car is moving and the clutch is in
so I just let go of the clutch and the car goes back to normal
