Got the news today--new synchros on the way.
After having intermittent problems getting the car into 5th for probably 2 months, I had it in today for an oil change and the tranny grinding.
I had the tech with me when I tried to engage 5th at 4000 rpm several times and yes, the grinding was audible.
They immediately called Mazda ordered the parts and gave me a loaner. Should have it done early next week. Glad this was resolved in one trip--I suspect if the wife had taken it up herself the outcome might have been different.
Anyway, bad synchros--this car is nothing if not challenging. Had a 87 RX-7, 91 RX-7 and 92 MX-5 and never had one tranny issue on any of those cars. How does Mazda go from having well built and long lasting transmissions to this sorry situation? Is this Ford Q-1 in action?
BTW, the car is an 04 MT with 35K, mostly highway miles.
