Flooded

About 2 months ago I did it in the tradional way I think.Pretty sure that's the only way to flood the rotary is by not bringing it to operating temp.
I just didn't feel comfortable about the solutions I was finding untill I found this

I didn't even consider taking out the plugs to clean the chamber of unburned fuel as the mention of fire got my full attention.
As instructed I turned the engine over twice for 10 seconds each with the 20 amp fuel pump fuse removed to clean the chamber. Then I reinstalled the fuse and after about 10 or 12
attempts she fired up and produced as expected a HUGE cloud of white smoke. My 8 was parked in an underground parking so I did it late at nite and I am glad I did.
That's a hell of a lot smoke. The engine ran terrible for a couple of minutes and a good run on the thruway all was right in the world again.

flooding can occur for a number of reasons. cold shut off, weak battery, slow starter, any single or combination of failing ignition parts ect

I had just replaced the entire ignition system and a brand new battery about 2 monthes prior to my flooding. I figured that's why it only took 10-12 attempts I had read that some people spent up to an hour and more cranking the engine.

Appreciate the heads up 200.mph

if your car is a stick the easiest/fastest way to de flood is push/pull start it. turn key on, put in 2nd and pop the clutch once its rolling

i never have much luck with pulling the pump relay, i either air out the engine by removing the plugs and EGI injection fuse and crank it or jump it with another car with a very strong battery, usually both. pull starting is the easiest method, but not for everyone(i work alone so i have no truck or helpers).

I thought about taking the plugs out and just air drying for a few days but removing them looks like a pain especially for an old phart like myself.
I geuss I was lucky the tech does say this is for first gen rotaries and won't work for 09 thru 2011.
