Flexable Brake Line Removal

While attempting to put on braided brake lines (from THMotorsports), I had trouble with the brake hard line. While turning the nut, the hard line started to twist. Is there a way to correct this without replacing the hard line?

You need to break the hard line nut before taking the flex line loose from the bracket where they meet. The flex line connector has a special shape the fits into the a hole in the bracket with the same shape. It has to be lined up properly in order for the flex line to fit in far enough for the locating clip to fit in place. Be sure and use a brake wrench on the hard line or you chance rounding it off with a standard wrench.

I am using the brake line wrench and the flex line is still in the bracket. The problem is when turning the nut, the hard line turns too.

Never seen that before

are you sure the flex end isn't turning too? Otherwise it shouldn't take too much of a turn before the nut is loose enough for the hard line not to be compressed closed

good luck with that

Positive, I turned the nut about a quarter of a turn. The hard line twisted in the process. There is a coating on the hard line (rust prevention?), that has now cracked off. The nut doesn't turn freely on the hard line. It's like the hard line has flattened in the nut or the flare, under the nut is bad.

Might be seized with rust; Try soaking it in PB Blaster or WD40, let it soak for several hours, repeat. After a day or two it'll hopefully have loosened up.

EDIT: Wolf beat me to it.

Is it possible the nut is just rusted on there and some wd40 or pb blaster could loosen it up?

I guess I would try like some delicate pliers or something like a small pipe wrench to anchor the solid break line. . .

But that may not be the problem and is probably not the best solution out there.

Just be careful not to break the hard line if you do that. Soft lines are easy to replace, hard lines are a bitch, especially the rear ones.

FYI I have a set of soft lines if you need them, switch over to SS last year
