failed emmisions due to check engine light

so i just got back from the inspector, and apparently my 8 has 2 codes that its throwing. Ive never had a problem before, and actually passed inspections 3 months prior. The computer said that my crankshaft position sensor and my rear o2 sensor was out. The o2 sensor is an easy fix, but i have no clue where to start with the crankshaft position sensor. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, any suggestions? Im still trying to figure out how both went out at the same time. Any help would be appreciated.

if the e-shaft sensor was out i dont think your car would be running right if at all it gets timing from that sensor(or maybe im confused) try doing the 20 break stomp ****... and see if they stay gone...... check and make sure that the e-shaft sensor is clean( if you are standing in front of the car looking into the engine bay look to the right and kind of down by the biggest pully it is like less than an inch away from it almost touching... hope that helps
