Question Engine Bad Or Cat

So far I've had no problems with the car until a week ago when it started to stall while holding the clutch in while driving at 37mph or more, but not under 37mph. Today coming home I was in 6th and had to shift to 5th a little power loss, so I figured to drop to 3rd and redline it, but when I got to about 6500 to 7500 rpm's it sounded like a lawnmower on crack so I eased the whole way home. I have an 05 shinka run 93 in all the time, did all fluid changes, plugs etc..., temp runs anywhere from 205 to 218 and the highest I've seen it was 225 and it's about 25*F right now, I use a scangauge to watch all sens., and I have almost 80,000 on it. I think it might be the cat I hope, if anyone can help please do. I wanna get a little feedback before I take it to the dealership so they don't try to screw me like they've done before. One more question that bugs me, how long do these engine's last, cause on my 7 I had almost 200,000 on it all stock parts and did regular maintenance on it, but had to sell the car cause I had a kid.

I leaning toward that also, but what are the stock temps supposed to be, I've been looking around and really can't find anything, and what about the ait what are they supposed to be, cause with my sw intake I get around 100 when it is about 60 or more outside. Thanks for you opinion on this matter.

my temps run between 180-195 depending on driving style
maybe a bit over 200 if I'm really hammering it

for AIT mine are usually about 20-35 degrees higher than ambient if I am at idle
AIT is 0-5 degrees of actual ambient temp

edit: thought about this a bit more and I misspoke about my ambient readings....it's been awhile since I've checked that

Well like I said car was running fine there, and the temps have always been like that, but if the cat is getting ready to go I think that it might be adding the extra heat here what do you think, plus I scanned it and no codes yet.

I agree...if cat is clogged than your temps will rise
also the fact that the exhaust note changed along with power loss leads me to believe it's a cat failure and also considering the mileage is high

at what RPMs do you experience power loss?

I'd say around 6g and up. I know that the cat has been replaced on it once from the previous owner, can't remember when maybe 1-2 years ago. I don't know if they followed the law of using the octane that it calls for or not, but i use it in everything from my lawnmower to the honda crv and everything in between. All I know is when I take it to the dealer and they replace it, I'm going out and buying the RB midpipe and forget about the cat until I need it again, just tuck it in the basement. If the cat's clog up that bad that fast, then most problems with engine and cooling have to mainly be that in my opinion, so why mess up the engine with a new cat, instead just keep it handy for those times you gotta have it on.

It's a lot hotter here in AZ in the summer time. I've seen 243 degrees in traffic. Outside air temps in the 115+.
If you have a loss of power have the dealer look at it. It more than likely is the cat which would be under warranty.
The problem with the dealer checking the cat is there parameters are low. If the cat loses flow at higher rpm's then the dealer will not be able to read it during there test. There test falls in a lower rpm range. So they could say it's fine.
Other thing is to make sure both cooling fans are coming on.

Read through this thread if you haven't already,,

Will do, and easy I've read your thread, but did you ever find out what was going on. They got another thing coming if they say everything is fine, they already know this from the last time when I had my 7, so if they try again they will be in the same boat.

hopefully cat and coils if you didn't change them.
We see a relation between worn coils and engine temps on the cars we maintein but since i have no objective data to prove it just take it as a bar talk

You won't believe this, but when I was putting my car back to stock I looked at the battery and it had corrosion all over positive term so I took out the battery to find a small crack at the bottom of the post, so got a new one and ha ha does not miss at high rpm's, and when I pushed the clutch in at 37 mph or more and held it till rpm's drop down to idle it did not stall like it was doing before, but the car is running fine, but it is doing something weird with the check engine light. It comes on and blinks 3 3 4 24 times and some more but I couldn't pay attention to them. I tried to read it with my gauge, but nothing comes up, so I have no idea what it is doing now, but still running fine, so is there a self check for the light you can do yourself.

I think it's because I went back to stock and didn't reset the cpu, did that today with brake pedal, and odometer and haven't seen it YET, but if it comes on again hopefully it throws a code instead of random flashing.
