Dealer's Line on Brake Pads
After I got the latest flash my dealer informed me that my brake pads are getting low enough to warrant replacing. No big problem.
Then they told me that whenever they replace pads they turn down the rotors to "even them out". But apparently with the RX-8 rotors they can't do that. Some line about hot braking temperatures and what it does the metal so on and so forth. So they would want to replace the pads and the rotors. Around $800 for the front pair only.
Now, my reaction is just to replace the pads and let the rotors slide for now. I don't necessarily love the rotors but they work fine right now and I don't have $1500+ to drop on them. But has anyone else heard anything like this? It sounds fishy to me.

How many clicks and what year? FYI you can get Racing Brake Front and Rear slotted rotors with Hawk Brake Bads and SS lines for less then 700 Shipped. PM Endless Rotaries from Auto RnD he has the best deals and awesome to work with!

"Recommend replacement of the front brake pads and rotors (too thin to cut)
Estimated cost of brake pads and rotors is $790.00 ($675.00 with discount applied"
I assume the $790 includes labor, which doesn't make it any less expensive. I trust the associates who work there, but its the mechanics that I'm shady about. I think the associates just trust whatever the mechanics say.

I just bought a pair of hawk pads and replaced the pads for $40 rotors were not warped so they didnt need to be machined...the dealer also told me i was almost going metal on metal which was a lie and told me i would probably need new brakes and rotors....It sounds like this is your first time at a dealership (i thought they all tried to upsale you during oil changes)???

i would honestly advise you to find a new dealership to take your car to. if nothing else, at least call them out on their obvious bullshit and let them know you aren't stupid. i would also place a call into MOA and let them know about the dealerships antics.
