DAMN another Misfire P0302 here!
got new plugs and MSD wires...
also installed MS CAI last year October.
Right after I put them on my car, went on the track and CEL popped up.
then came back to home and changed stock cat to Highflow cat from SR motorsports. Also changed coils.
Still when I get on the highway and give quick taps more than 4 times on high RPM more than 7000, CEL pops on.
changed coils, plugs, wires, CAT...
then... what else?..
went to dealer and they dunno wut's going on....
have SCAN so... got P 0302 always..
Also having problem with hot start after changed to new plugs, MSD wires, and MS CAI

what are quick taps at over 7k???? that is the big big stupid? you did 15 or more things at the same time and want one answer...
read the code. fuking duh...
if you have scan you would know..

What do you mean read the code?..
I said I got P0302 which is cylinder 2 (rear rotor) misfiring on the post up there!
wut duh?
I meant quick taps for gas pedal around 7000 rpm.

had lots of tabs open last night... i was the tard el grande...
here you go short and simple..
missfires are one or more..
bad plugs
bad wires
bad coils
wires not secure...
as you seem to cover that. also it happens with a tank less than a 1/4 full...
and also the fuel pump could be going bad... or the harness to the fuel pump...

I have had a few P0302 codes on track. Each time I got them, it was on a course with long sweepers. Each time I got them, I had added a bit extra oil so I wouldn't have to top up after each session. When I went back to filling oil to the max line on the dip stick, I didn't get a CEL. I don't know if it is coincidence or a cause.

I got a 0302 code yesterday. I have had them on the track several times before but this is the first time on the street. I did change the plugs last weekend.
I replaced the coil paks & wires last year and the codes keep coming. When I spoke with mazda they told me that the ignition is very sensitive. My scan tool has freeze frame data that indicates that the code is thrown at a relatively low rpm (5-6 K). Would a laptop based scan tool help diagnosis the problem?

Most of the mods are in my signature.
I got the RB race flash after I had Mazda do the recall flash.
I recently installed the Mazmart wp.
If you think the problem is the fuel pump then would that show up on the freeze data? I always keep the fuel tank topped up.
I ran a can of BG44k thru the fuel system 6 months ago I guess it can't hurt to do it again.
Like i said I track the RX-8 alot and have been addressing overheating problems.
I think I have it licked with a ventilated hood (seibon TS), Koyo rad, mazmart wp and water wetter.

I don't think its the fuel pump at all.
Rotories throw cells. A misfire is common.
If it doesn't throw a cell on the track your not driving fast enough.
Check you plugs and wire connections. Don't worry about it.
f it becomes persisant on the street.. check the coils.

not to hijack, but have you guys noticed that the needle is off from when you shut down the car to the next time you start it up? today i went out to lunch, swore i had just under a 1/4. i get back in, needle doesnt move and my lights on.
check that mileage out!

I have been getting the 0302 code as well and it started when I shreaded a belt and I am not sure but think it may have something to do with the magnetic pick up sensor? any thoughts on that? what should the clearece be on the sensor? changed coils and plugs no help from that!

Darnellm, could it be related to your poert opening up and the SSV is carboned up/
Clean that valve, go out and hold it at high RPM.
It would be nice if you could log data and send it to Mazda Maniac. You may have to pay for the service but he could campare the RB tune to the Access Port to see if you car is still running rich.
Have you cleaned the MAF and checked for intake leaks?
I have seen new coils going bad.
Stock coils aren't great. Sounds like you need to get a set from BHR.
Clean that valve, go out and hold it at high RPM.

Im getting a P0300 CEL random/multi-cylinder misfire reading. Here's the oddball part; this code came up after a swapped the OE eccentric pulley for the Agency Power underdrive pulley. About a week or so ago I changed out the stock alternator and water pump pulleys for the OBX replacements.
I checked the connections of the spark plug wires, and they're solid. The ignition's relatively new; I installed new plugs, Okada plasma coils and 10mm Magnecor wires back in early December. Perhaps it's the fuel pump on its way out? I got about 60k mi, but the code came up at about a third of a tank, and it doesn't sound like the engine's struggling. I notice when I accelerate the CEL goes from solid to flashing.

Ok just got off the phone with my friend that helped me change out these pulleys. Turns out he bent one of the teeth on that gear-looking thingy that the crank position sensor reads off of... FML. I'm guessing that might have something to do with it now? He said he removed it, put it in a vice, and "straightened it out" best he could.
Still, I'm open to suggestions and other bits of knowledge. Oh, side note - even though my Access Port is pulling up a P0300, Autozone's diagnostic scanner tool said it was cylinder 1 (same friend works there, didn't actually see the displayed code on his tool).

One Shot One Kill
to check if it is gas pump, take your car to a large parking lot, get to about 30 mph, keep rpm up around 7-8k, and do a sweeping left in circle, tighter and increase the G's, if the engine just dies, than it's the fuelpump.

I got P0302 yesterday at 7,500 RPM, straight line acceleration, WOT, I did have about 1/4 tank of gas. My engine only has a little more than 3,000 miles on it, same with the coils, plugs and wires. The same thing happens every time I open up the throttle. All connections seem good.

Re-check the plug wire connection.
Sounds like you have a 201 RX8. Just bring it in.
