Coolant issue

Hi There!

Bought an '05 GT with 66k miles a few weeks ago. I had it inspected at a dealership before purchase, who gave it a clean bill of health, save for some oil seepage from the front engine seals (Don't worry, I am well aware of the wankel's peculiarities regarding oil consumption and check my oil religiously anyway.) I took the car to a local import specialist with a rotary expert on staff to have it tuned up and flushed. When the guy was through with it he explained to me that one of the coolant lines was seeping onto the thermostat. Coolant level and engine temps are fine for the time being. I'm going to have this taken care of Monday.

My questions are these: I have been reading about warped housings causing coolant leaks. Could the dealership or rotary mechanic have missed this? The service manager at the dealership indicated to me that the engine was under warranty until 100k miles. Is this something that would be covered under warranty?

Thanks!

Yes, I believe it it would be covered.........if that's what it is.
If it's just a coolant line leaking....why did you make the leap to warped housing?

Paranoia mostly. The car seems to run just fine, but it smells strongly of coolant when I get out. I was doing some searching and found that being discussed. It's a used car after all. Thanks for your input!

Does your exhaust smell sweet?
Are you putting out a fair amount of white smoke?

I get the coolant smell when i get out of my car too. Exhaust smells and looks normal, and there is no leaks that i can see. The only problem i got is low idle speeds. It dips to 500rpm and has almost died altogether a few times. Is the smell anyway reltated to the idle issue?

Car is 04 with 51000 miles.
